Worst discussion ever... I dont hold hf beers hostage because they are quality. also average price is $6-$20 and i trade based on that.... After a 3 hour drive and hour wait in line i do not add value because it is rare, i trade based on value knowing i can get someone to trade a rare beer of equal value not rob someone. Anyone endorsing this type of "trading" is demoralizing beer literaccy and turning the trading forum into a billboard for publicly showing people that you stray far from the path that most are here to keep clean. Ill trade a hf beer for a prop... But im adding gas, time, tax, quality tax and because i can vaule.... This is crazy. I dont even want a bottle of prop this year after watching the greed. I think people just get greedy when they have something rare then justify how they are being "fair"

Nicely written, couldn't have said it better myself. I don't trade at all outside regular partners anymore, however if you'd like some vintage Cantillon (07-08 Lou Pepes, 09-10 St. Lam/Vig, etc) $4$ for HF stuff (nothing crazy rare, Anna/Edward/BoT/growlers type stuff etc) come spring (too cold right now), please make a note of my ID and hit me up...

    Cheers,

I offered at 2012 St. Lam for Prop and didn't any responses. Do I need to add to get this done or should I try again?

I figured it was pretty fair: $4$ is about right on, about the same number FT on this site, and similar wants to gots ratio.

You forget that the majority of bottles are in the hands of Chicago BAs.

I had prop last weekend and was not impressed. Regular bcbs blew it out of the water. I'm wondering if the coconut (or rare factor) has stared to fade?

I was impressed with prop. I have had a couple bottles and I love it. It is important that you let it warm a bit to get more coconut flavor. I still have several left and have no interest in trading them. I don't care if the coconut fades a little and I don't care about rarity.

Having had all the beers in question, I would never do that trade myself if I was ISO Prop.

Also, not evenly remotely close to a whale. A case of prop's would be unlikely to get you a whale.

The beer has only been bottled for 2 months. This is an honest question to anyone out there. Can / will the coconut really fall off that fast? I mean, I'm not saying this will be tasting like gold a year from now, but has it really gone downhill that fast?

It was bottled in October I think?

To be fair, it was a really good/excellent beer. My expectations were sky high after reading other peoples reviews and seeing how hard it was to trade for.

I was just underwhelmed when I had it and personally did not taste or smell much of the toasted coconut. If it was a shelf beer, like regular BCBS is in RI, I would buy it again. However, I won't be trading for it again.

Agreed Liquid Courage. I think some people have held it hostage judging by what it has traded for. I have seen ISO as high as 9 BCBCS. That is just crazy.

Holding beers hostage = I don't have the ammo to land said beer. Prop is fantasitic, but it's not better than having BCBCS 5 or 6 times let alone 9. I would even argue that if you had to choose between BCBCS and Prop to try only one time ever in your life, BCBCS wins in spades. It's just a better beer.

Also I'd argue that most people's best beer is simply not for trade. So for lots of noobs that's Proprietors, so of course they don't want to trade it, especially if they've tried it and realized how good it is. It's always a gamble trading a beer that you know is great for a beer that may only be very good at best.

Not commenting on the trade value at all, just my experience of the coconut flavor over the past couple months.

I've opened or tasted from maybe 8 or 10 bottles since release and had it on tap once. There seems to be significant bottle variation. I had bottles opened in the first month that were really weak in coconut and others pretty strong and delicious. The 1 time it was on tap was sadly very weak. Oddly enough the most coconut crazy bottle opened was just last weekend. It was in your face, actual mounds bar strength coconut and just amazing, and it was just sitting in a box in my closet. I would say it's definitely holding up well to this point, and the ones with less coconut forward flavor I would say is just luck of the draw on bottle variation
