Yeah that's the thing. It's an apples and oranges thing. They're both so awesome that it's either a matter or preference or whatever you can get your hands on. These claims that one is light years ahead of the other are all hyperbole.

Any idea when this will show up in IL?

Got to do this two weeks ago, BOTH were on tap!

BCBBW I had had two weeks prior and it BLEW me away and immediately became my favorite BW of all time.

So the opportunity to try this next to Sucuba I couldn't pass up. And you know what? Everyone at the table agreed Sucuba came out on top. Now to MY taste, both were close. But everyone else felt the FW blew the Goose Island out of the water. I disagree -- they are incredibly close. In my opinion the Bourbon County lost out because it was a little hotter.

Which makes me think! that maybe the FW had an unfair advantage from being aged a year?

Either way if you try them both you are not going to lose, you are only going to win...TWICE. Incredible beers, both of em.

Uh oh, another thread devolving into a GI Bourbon County thread.

In that spirit, though, I thought BCBBW was good but kind of one-notey and sweet; not quite the depth of flavor/complexity or balance that Abacus/Sucaba have.

I was having a Westy 12 with Vinnie C on his boat the other day and he was talking about how excited he was about their sour program

I wouldn't try §ucaba side by side with BCBBW. §ucaba is smooth and balanced. The overwhelming sweetness of BCBBW will destroy all of that. Have the BCBBW after you're done enjoying §ucaba...

Vinnie C doesn't drink Westy 12....I was told this by Greg Koch while drinking some 2005 OG.

I was wondering the same thing. After sleuthing the similar release thread from last year it seems it took about 2 weeks after the initial California release to hit the shelves at Binny's.

Whether that holds true to form this year, who knows...

Everyone at every Binny's with whom I've spoke said not to expect it until the last week of January or first week of February. Take it for what it's worth.

I prefer sucaba and parabola to BCBW and BCBS.

You better run. Some people here will crucify you for that heretical statement.

    I, however, share your preference.

Good to know, cheers. It was definitely a bit of wishful thinking on my part to hope it would arrive on the 2 week timetable again.

Feral One, the blended sour you are mentioning, should be available for a limited release, similar bottle count as PNC, in March. Along with Feral One, Opal, the saison, will be bottled and released this year as well. On top of that, there has been mention of one more sour/wild being bottled and released this year. Speculation is either Bretta or Agrestic.

2014 version fresh with FW rep on site with draft and bottles Feb 6th where I'm at, if anyone wants to do any trading for Hopslam/Heady/Pliny let me know. As well as FW 17th Anniversary growler fills.

Yes, it seems as if FW ships beer to the East Coast via horse and buggy.
