I am one that believes that the proper glass is a catalyst in the understanding, nay, the sheer enjoyment of a beer, according to it's style. That being said, I've been bad. I had a Witte, then instead of changing glassware, found myself enjoying the wheat glass for some Saison, and then an extra IPA. Guess what? All the beers were really good. Sometimes I use my 4 oz sampler glass from Troegs or Pyramid (different shapes entirely) and it works for me. Do you have an alternate glassware experience to share?

I think the differences between glasses are probably very small. That said, I wouldnt mind having a full set, even though I use only a pint glass now, since its all I have. But my lady is sending me a laser-etched winish style glass. Im excited! I wonder what the more experienced drinkers have to add, since I was wondering how important it was to keep within the style/glass arrangement.

Only use anything other than a pint glass when I'm drinking high gravity brews.

I agree, I think any differences are extremly small.
But that doesn't mean I don't like to break out the fancy and rare glasses when I crack the whalez

We use Riedel, except when a glass jar suffices.

Although, I tend to use my mug for most lagers. I might bust out my maß on occasion...

I also have 3 Dicks Last Resort wheat beer glasses I use.

Ill use the right glassware for most beers but when I dont I ALWAYS end up going back to the best glass for any beer IMO - a 10oz short stemmed snifter.

I cant tell you the last time I poured a can of Hop Drop n Roll into a glass. Straight from the can every time nowadays.

These days I think proper glassware (or#properglassware) with in this community is more about matching up the beer with matching brewery glassware than it is style of glassware. To be honest, if you are using anything outside of a shaker pint you are doing pretty damn good. The difference between a snifter and a tulip will probably be fairly negligible. I rotate through all sorts of glassware, my decision is almost always based on what I am feeling at the moment and not the specific beer.

Sampler glasses work out well enough. For those who don't have a varied glassware collection and want one, I just have a pretty standard Libbey set from Target/Bed, Bath & Beyond. Was like $20 for the set (six different types of glasses), so I got two so I'd have multiple of each. Not essential, but a worthwhile investment if you're just looking for "appropriate" glassware for your beer.

Can shaped glasses are my favorite all around style. They make most styles taste better to me. Not great for sediment styles though.

I just have a few different tulips that I keep in my cabinet. I'll just switch when I'm switching beer styles or if reviewing. I don't get a new glass to go from Heady Topper to Flower Power.

I use tulips most often. However, I have a nice Maine Beer Co. pint glass that I love for non-BA stouts, a Spiegelau pint glass for single IPAs, and an Allagash glass that goes well with pretty much everything. A tulip can sub in for anything, though.

I just love a small little tasting glass that I have. I'ts good for everything except lagers and belgians which prefer the pint glass and the big tulip respectively. I love ti because ti gives me two pours for 12 oz and let's me enjoy a "my size" portion of the beer without having to fill up the glass with the whole beer. Who wants a half naked glass anyway?

    =)

Sitting 100+ deep in a mostly liberated beer glass collection. I really just choose on a whim. I will grab one of the many snifters (particularly my CBS snifter) when I am drinking something a little richer and special.

I basically have 5 glasses: pints (lots of those), a large pilsener/lager one, a big tulip, a small tulip, and a snifter. covers all bases

I have one of almost every type of beer glass you can think of, but that's just because I love accessorizing my hobbies.

When I'm not at home with my entire glassware collection, I'll sometimes bring a tulip and a becker pint glass with me. But overall, as long as I can pour it into some sort of glass, I'm happy. I hate drinking from the bottle, I feel that it mutes a lot of the flavors and aromas. I've had beers that taste vastly different from a glass, but that I couldn't tell apart in a blind test from the bottle.

What I do is look at the different beers I've decided to drink that night and choose a glass that will be most appropriate for all of them. Bottle size and ABV are heavy factors toward what glass I choose. I never drink more than 3 different beers in a night when I'm at home. Usually I go with a snifter because it seems to work fine for almost all styles.

A red wine glass works well with any and all beers!
