You know you're a beer geek when you insist on proper glassware even when you're perhaps drinking a bit irresponsibly.

Good beer tastes good out of just about anything. However, there's no doubt that the "right" glass can enhance a beer by coaxing out and accentuating it's best characteristics.

I have way too much glassware, but I like it that way. And to the original point of the thread, I recently used the same footed Belgian glass for a Troegs Mad Elf, then an Old Rasputin, without rinsing it. It was fantastic--the spiced cherry sweetness of the Elf was a near perfect complement to the big dark roasty Raspy. I always recommend these kinds of experiments.

I used a Duvel tulip (the etching creating bubbles is damn cool) for ages but now my main glass is...[IMG]
it does a good all around job imo. that said I am an ass and have about every style of glass there is. We used to have contests to see who could boost the most glassware from Old Bay (new brunswick nj) in one setting. They used to leave the door open on the back patio, my brother was able to snag about 9 glasses in one go... that was ages ago ("back in the day") so please spare the morality trip, we all do stupid shit

As long as I have my weizen glass for my Pale Wheats, Weizen's and Wit's, I'm all good.

I'm dimensionally challenged so I try not to use a glass of less than 24 oz

Just picked up a teku glass the other day, it's made a fairly large difference in how the beers have been tasting. Helluva lot better than the standard pint glasses I've been using

Use any glass you want, as long as you don't use wine glasses and call them "snifters".

When in doubt, tulip! Works for almost everything.

I use a tulip for belgians/heavy stouts, mug for amber ales/porters/stouts/marzens/dopplebocks, pilsener glass for pils/hefes

I rarely "break the rules" but there are times depending on the beer for example, where I dont want to have a wheat beer in a weizen glass and just throw it in a pilsner glass. I'll ususally put an IPA in a tulip but there are times where I'll use a pint glass.

Its tough to find a cheap snifter in stores from my personal experience. A hefeweizen glass is much easier to find. Tulips and snifters are the hardest to find. Again Im talking about in stores not online.

Totally drank a 2013 Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout out of a coffee mug last night

for the most part though, i drink out of "appropriate" glassware, although those lagunitas mason jars are pretty awesome

I mostly use the standard shaker glasses (which seem to be more of a 12 oz size), but I do love my Duvel tulip and I use that one most often when I'm drinking a stout. I'm not really sure why, it's just how I end up pouring.

I enjoy everything out of an over-sized snifter. To me, this is the most universal glassware out there.
