So Spring beers are starting to roll out. Being in the NJ with the snow falling right now and temps in the teens all week, I'm not ready for them. Anyway, a new wave of seasonal releases is always exciting so my question is which Spring beers are you looking forward to most?

You, my good man, are the eternal optimist.

I'm looking outside my window at 8" of snow with some Deschutes Black Butte Porter in the fridge.

I'm thinking stout, porter, and American Barleywine until I can see some green...

Spring beers? But...but it's late January...

Why haven't they been out for a few weeks already?

I normally don't care for/understand why doppelbocks are a spring beer, but considering "spring beer" is now code for January-March releases and it's still ranging between 20F and -2F....yeah, I'm down for some "spring bier." 8% bocks just don't make sense in April or May anyway.

Too early for spring beer. I do like Ruthless Rye and Uinta's Honey Ale when I see a few buds on the trees, however.

Not til the beginning of march. And by the time I buy one, it'll be the last on the shelf and the summer ones will be right behind it

Smuttynose Durty works for me. 8% hoppy brown ale that is thick and creamy with great roasted and chocolate malt flavors. This will do until weather gets warmer. Cant wait for nugget nectar too!

It's dumping snow in the Philly burbs right now (again) with weather in the teens, so yeah, gonna have to echo the "not really thinking about low abv session/wheat/whatever beers" until this cold abates a bit. All I'm thinking about is my last BCBCS in my fridge. And is Nugget Nectar considered a spring seasonal? It has always come out around now, and I realize there are a few spring seasonals already out, but I was always operating under the assumption it was a winter release...

got a bottle of Nugget. I'm going to wait till it gets warmer out. But I think next time when I'm at the bottle shop, I'll splurge the $7.50 for yuengling bock. Its the best thing that they offer.

This is getting a bit ridiculous... Spring beers already! The Fall beers are out in July for crying out loud!

Spring is my least favorite beer season, anyway. I went to get another 12 pack of Saranac winter beers this week and it was already replaced with the spring collection. I got it anyway, it does have Irish Stout and a few IPAs and Dry Hop Lager, so actually I think they did make a good spring pack this year. Probably not even going to bother with Sam Adams... I was disappointed with the winter collection this year. I will get some of that SN Bigfoot, though!

The article linked below is interesting but this paragraph quickly explains why doppelbocks are brewed for Spring consumption.

"... I did a little research into the Lenten practice of monks of the 17th Century. Thirsty as I am, I focused on the origin story of the doppelbock style of beer. Legend has it that monks from Munich developed the beer for more nutrition during their liquid-only fasts during Lent."

They say if you buy a spring beer in winter and it sees its shadow, there will 12 more months of drinking beer.

No. No discussion! There's nothing but snow all around and more on it's way. So spring releases are not really on my mind right now.
I believe that Nugget Nectar used to be a "spring" release up until last year when they started to releasing it February (I think), now this year it's out in January.
