Technically, Serenity - the gold medal winner - is a Brett Beer. That style discourages the complexity that derives from barrel ageing beyond occasional yeast cultivation in the brew. The Wicked Weed barrel program is really just getting started. It's awesome, but it's young. Right now the best barrel program in NC would appear to belong to older breweries such as Green Man in Asheville or Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills. How can such a young barrel ageing program (A process that inherently takes huge gulps of time) belong to one of the youngest breweries in NC? My vote goes to Green Man.

I was gonna say the same thing about GA lol. So 3 taverns is going to start sours? I didn't know that. Also look into orphious brewing. Their opening up here shortly and supposed to have some sours.
    Cheers!

SC would easily go to Westbrook as far as sour beers/programs go.

In Colorado, I would say the top three are probably Crooked Stave, Avery, and New Belgium. I haven't had any of the AC Golden sours yet, but I've heard good things about their "Hidden Barrel" sour project.

For VA, Strangeways has an awesome sour saison that they throw different fruit at occasionally. I've heard hardywood is working on some stuff, but nothing so far. Wild Wolf also has an excellent Berliner Weisse (that is readily available on draft). There is a new brewery opening in Stafford in about a month that is going to have a sour program going as soon as possible too, so thats exciting.

Not much going on in NJ for sours. Carton has had two. Monkey Chased the Weasel is good as was Sour Sandy, not much else going on for sours here though.

Pretty certain he/she was joking. Describing that liquid as "terrible" is generous.

I totally thought I had written up a bit on Stillwater. Whoops. Yeah, I have high hopes for Burley Oak and glad to see someone else does too. I understand the bottles issue, but they are super small and the bottles are quite limited. They are expensive once they hit distro (Rude Boy was the only low $ one so far). The bottles are under $20 if you get them at the brewery, but I realize that is a bit of a hike; however, they don't release too often. I have yet to open Lower Class, Rude Boy (had on tap), or SummaRye.

Jack's Abby had one sour time lager and it was pretty good after a bit of age.

In ri, grey sail and Newport storm have both made sour beers, but grey sail had made a bunch more special sours for like beer fests and brewery only, they have been saying they want to do more when they expand, so they will get the nod.

Agreed with your list, just need to add FW and fingers crossed that Societe and Rare barrel can pump something out.

Simple Sour is so freaking tasty and drinkable. I'd bet both big toes that there will be much more sour beer coming from Peekskill before long.

Keep your eye on O'so. They will be expanding to wild/sour beer in the future. Four new ones released yesterday.

Night Shift certainly has a lot of amazing stuff, no question. But Lady in the Woods from Cisco is absolutely delicious. Easily one of the best few sours I've had. Very unique flavor profile, very sessionable, and not so sour that it makes you pucker every time you take a sip.

Jester King is the obvious one in Texas, but I haven't had enough stuff from Freetail yet to say that Jester King definitely beats them out.

Rivertown Brewing Company in Cincinnati makes some great sours.

Man oh man oh man, this is my most/least favorite thread on BA since I joined.

Most favorite because it puts in one place a bunch of great sours I'd like to try some day.

Least favorite because I'm now full of envy for folks living in the areas of these great breweries.

Didn't know there were any sours brewed in VA . Will have to get up to Strangeways . I did hear that Alewerks was was working on something .
The best that I can usually find here is Tilquin Gueze .
