Good morning presidents of pale ales, chairmen of Czech Pilsners, and senators of sours! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your pints, snifters, and flutes today!

Weather in Central OH is a winter wonderland! Snowing like crazy and looks to continue. Temps are supposed to drop to sub-zero this week. My spirit was warmed by the introduction of Deschutes to our market. I managed to pick up some Black Butte porter which will most certainly be making an appearance here today. Other folks around here have been pre-occupied with Hopslam. While it's delicious, I'm kind of over the hype. I find that there are so many other wonderful IPA's around here, at a much more reasonable price, and I don't have to fight hipsters smelling like patchouli to have a beautiful American IPA in my perfect pint glass.

Speaking of...today is the day and this is the place to grab a new beer and POST your thoughts here. Kindly find something new to you, sample it, and give us a GOOD description of what you tried. Linked reviews are always appreciated. Feel free to jazz it up a bit with pictures, videos, and anything else you think would help us join you in your virtual musings of all things new, crafty, and beer-y on this wonderful day of the week.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Matt what a beautiful day. It stopped snowing and although ti;s till really cold who cares. I still have beer. If I stay inside for another day I will run out . . . but not today.

Today I had something I was really looking forward to. Green Flash Palate Wrecker. If you know me then you know that I just love West Coast IPA and have wanted to try this beer for such a long time. I finally got it! Hooray! It kept me company while I was cooking lunch and I would drink this anytime.

I've seen this thread for quite a long time but never felt the need to post because I never had anything particularly extraordinary to share... but I do today.

Round Barn's Indecision Ale -- a small craft brewery here in Michigan. Here is the review I shared with the site. I'm sorry if these posts are supposed to be positive:

The short review? I'll solve the "indecision" -- don't buy this shitty "beer."

The long? Well, it still won't be all that long.

Appearance: I read ahead of time that this beer was a gusher, so I made sure to take it slowly out of the fridge and not move it much to minimize it. Welp, within seconds anyway, it gushed all over the place for about 3-5 minutes, so it's a good thing I was near a bathroom... it would have been a LOVELY mess otherwise. I had a pint of foam and ultimately lost about 3 ounces out of the beer. Nice start, Round Barn!

Smell: Sweet. Sort of Belgian-y apple. Spicy. Sweet. A bit of malt. Actually quite nice.

Taste/feel: Dreadful. Certainly one of the worst beers I've ever had. Thin like water, harsh carbonation that prickles the tongue so it drinks like a pop. Artificial sweetness sort of thing going on in the finish... it's like drinking dirty copper water. Aftertaste has the decent apple characteristic, but it's also loaded with that horrific artificial sweetener/copper flavor that really just ruins it all.

Not a good beer. At all. Truthfully awful. I'd much sooner drink an adjunct lager than this atrocious home brew gone wrong. Round Barn, next time you're Indecisive? Don't brew the God damned beer. This beer is so bad, it tried drain pouring itself the moment I popped the cap.

1.5/5 overall simply because of the smell and the nanosecond of reasonable apple flavor.

    New (retired) Old Ale Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,

My heading is a bit of a confusion and oxymoron rapped up into a perfectly understandable title on BA. I see that NBS's very own Bitterbill is the last BA to review this beer about six months ago. And while it is listed as a "limited" there appears to be many years in which it was brewed, but just no more.

Not much to report from SCMN in terms of weather. Cold, snowy (I think I've shoveled 5 of the last 7 days) and pretty much what one would expect for this part of the world at this time of year. A good day for a heavier English Ale I'd say.

This is a jewel of an old ale, for those fond of such things.

Best to all this week and stay warm if you are in such climates.

Good day, folks! Here to share good beer, good (IMO lol) music, and my resentment of the Pro Bowl.
    Also, weather observations.

First off, a quick thanks @j47paco for sending me (gratis ) a new beer yesterday (which I had to consume immediately) that was amazing: Citra Showers, from Noble Ale Works.

Today, the sun poked its face out again after yesterday's snow.
This concludes the "weather observations" portion of the post.

So, a totally random buy - I was gonna pass it up because the bottle label didn't do much for me (there's been threads about this ) - but then I saw it was Stone, and I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt every time.
    Matt's Burning Rosids

Stone is never at a loss for words...
But this is actually a real nice commemorative/memorial beer - this beer was "formulated" (?) by a former employee, Matt Courtright, who died in a "forklift accident" - Stone decided to make this beer from his recipe.
Rosids (yes, I hadda look this up) include the cherry tree, from which we get cherry wood - so "Burning Rosids" = "smoked cherry tree wood"...
A real nice beer, actually - I'm sure that any "cherry" flavor that pokes through is psychological at least in part, but I got it, amid pale orchard-like fruit flavors and some smokiness (nothing particularly pronounced until the finish), and a nice peppery/spice complement. Not your typical saison, but a unique entry into the style. Easily recommended.
Oh, and I hate the Pro Bowl. So annoying - I'd rather there be nothing this weekend. Having these guys just cash an extra check for a nonsense game with no consequences is aggravating. Goodell recognized the pointlessness of the game, but opted to explore this format, which is awful. If this game was meaningless before, then there are no words for how meaningless it is now.
    *silence follows*

    Still listening to...

    Cheers!

    New Winter Warmer Sunday!

Greetings to the NBS gang from a snow-scaped Jersey Shore. More snow yesterday added a fresh coating to the tundra. The sun was out earlier today and the temperature is a 'mild' 26 degrees as the clouds build.
I squeezed in a workout and some snow clearing before lunch, now it's time for, what else, a Winter Warmer:

    Good stuff.

After hearing that my very favorite band is coming to my home town in June, I can't help but share the joy. And, yes, I already have the tickets for the show.

Jorma, like barrel aged stout, improves over time.

    All the best, everyone. Cheers!

This would pair very nice with Jane's mac and cheese dinner. Surly Darkness RIS is packed with bitter and milk chocolate, earthy hops, dark fruits, and caramel, brown sugar, molasses for a delicious flavor.

Cheers Matt and to the rest of the NBS universe.

First off, kudos to Gary's mention of moi re the Elizabethan Ale. A hidden gem, so to speak.

New beers today for me? A bunch, so I'll just post the links to my reviews:

    Notch Session Ale: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22723/67108/?ba=Bitterbill

    Notch Session Pils: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22723/67261/?ba=Bitterbill

    Ten Sleep Pale Rider: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/33670/111309/?ba=Bitterbill

Thank goodness the combined abvs of the Notch brews added up to a mere 12.3%abv.

No snow in Casper though it was predicted but it's cloudy out now so maybe...

    Cheers!

Just a lovely looking beer! Black used oil looking body during the pour which then forms a beautiful fluffy foamy head. Light tan and dark reddish brown tints.
Delicious roasted flavor with a easy drinking smoothness; dark chocolate covered cherries, some coffee and fruitiness throughout.
Little carbonation which helps to make this very easy to drink.
Love me some stouts, dry, sweet, milk, oatmeal, BA, etc. doesn't matter! If they are done right, and this one is(!), they are truly enjoyable and worthy of drinking all year long, however this time of year does seem to make them even more enjoyable. Pick this one up folks! It's a winner!
    Cheers NBS466!

    NEW SAISON SUNDAY

Hello NBSers! Its been lovely spending a quiet day inside while the cold continues to rage outside. I'm looking forward to my wife and I's date night of errands and dinner while my mom babysits. Doesn't sound like much, but time alone will be wonderful.

Anyway, while the little guy naps after a hard day of headbanging lessons in mobility I'm enjoying a nice session strenghth saison.

I usually don't get too excited about Browns but this one was pretty decent.

Listed as English but the hop presence cried American to me. All around solid effort.

    Happy NBS!

Never heard of or seen before...very nice!
Not the huge hop bomb that you'd expect from BR but every bit as enjoyable as what you'd expect from them.
Light golden hue, light lacing and easy finish.

Today's got a couple of very exciting brews in the queue. Starting things off will be Bona Fide from 4 Hands. I've shared my thoughts on 4 Hands in this forum previously, but suffice to say they're a brewery that has the talent to make some solid beers, but one by which I've been let down at times as well. Bona Fide definitely falls into the former category. Rich and roasty and chocolate and good coffee... not as much vanilla as I was expecting though, and - personal preference - I would have liked a thicker body, but it is an enjoyable break from studying for my first pediatrics test in the morning.

Weather here in the middle (seems to be what everyone's talking about, with no football, right? [probowl does not count {scrap the game: bring back the skills competitions!}]) finally returned to enjoyability today: fifties and clear after a week with temps dropping to single digits (down as low as -20 with the wind chill!!) that left my beard looking like Sanka's dreads by the time my ride was over. Today is the short reprieve, because tomorrow it's supposed to be right back to single digits. Fun.

I hope everyone is staying warm and healthy, and since I already know you're drinking well, I'll just leave you with a: have a good week!!

    New ambiguous Beer Sunday!
Was at work for Sunday hours, now I'm done working for the man. Now it's time for me. This is my first time trying Maine Beer Company's Lil One. This beer is...well I will let my review do the talking.

This was a sure surprise! My only lament is that I didn't buy more of it. Some beers don't need a category for it to be great!
    Cheers NBSers!
