Have never tried this and would hope it lives up to it's hype a la BCBS...which after my first bottle DID live up to it's hype! But c'mon with this mysterious release business....just trying to add to the mystique I guess.

Might not be that hard to come across in a trade if you're looking for the 12oz variant.

I'd say if you like BCBS then you'd more than enjoy BN as it has quite a thicker body and a more robust barrel character. Keep an eye out for Bell's events as they seem to tap it quite often...at least here in Michigan. I've seen it maybe 7-8 times in the Grand Rapids area in the last 12 months.

Apparently my brother-in-law saw some in Madison. Too bad I missed out on it.

Damn, I live in MI and my shop had a 1 bottle limit last year. I know of a better shop now, this year, so maybe that will be different.

Thanks! I make quarterly trips to see my parents in Metro Detroit so maybe I'll get lucky and time it right!

Not sure where in PA you were but they're tapping it at the end of Feb outside of Cleveland.

Why why? is 45 dollars for JUST 12 samples considered a good deal? Seriously it's just 4oz I know you want to restrict the pours with drunk drivers but come on!

edit: ow ok appetizer buffet I would wreak that shit

With all the stuff that comes out this time of year, I for one don't mind waiting a few more months to see this in bottles. Got to refill the reserves you know.

Which one has the thicker body? Black Note?

Black Note is by no means thin but I would never venture as far to say the body is more substantial than Bourbon County. I am not sure I can agree about the barrel either, if that is what you were saying.

I think both are outstanding beers but for very different reasons. Bourbon County is massive, viscous and assertive. Black Note is much more subtle by comparison, very smooth, well integrated flavors. Very velvety texture but not nearly as viscous as BCS.

This here. Less assertive in about every aspect yet so freakin good nonetheless.

The Winking Lizard basically started the craft beer scene in Ohio and are the reason so many breweries have come to Ohio (Revolution, New Belgium, Deschutes, etc.). They go out of their way to get amazing beers for this fest, many of which cost upwards of $400-500 a keg (a keg of Fou Foune, where the hell else are you going to get that on draft!), sell for $3-4 a sample in taprooms and some of which will be the only Ohio appearance for the beer. This fest is a gift to the people who join their world tour - it's only $40 for tourists and includes food and they barely break even - it's not a cash cow for them. It was hands-down the best event in Ohio last year and I bet it'll be up there with the best again. If $45 has you bitching, find a new hobby. Craft beer isn't cheap, but it's also not expensive - ask a wine connoisseur if they would pay $3.75 a sample for best in the world.

Yeah...I'm in Philadelphia. Not worth the trip for that IMO. It is likely to appear on tap at one of my favorite local places that find these beers to feature. If not, maybe on a trip to Michigan.

Considering I follow almost every liquor store on FB and Twitter, I don't think that is possible. I would know if it was around.

That day he saw it, he picked up Assassin and Barrel-aged Nighttrain Porter (remember a while ago you asked me how I landed the Porter? I didn't land it, he was just sharing it with me). That was last month. I don't think every whale is posted in their social media.

I know, I know. I've always felt against the grain on Bourbon County and found it to have a thinner profile than KBS/Black Note. Agree with assertive and massive but I always thought it lacked in the viscous department. Maybe my mouth is just effed.

This thread pleases me. Black note is my favorite beer of all time I do beleive. . I lined up BN KBS and BCBS side by each one night, it was an experience. BN came out on top over all. But it was very interesting to experience the subtle differences between them all.

I don't think comparing KBS with BN and BCBS is apples to apples.

Wouldn't it be more fair to Compare KBS to BCBCS, Big Bad Baptist, BA Speedway and..........all the others we could spend hours naming.
