Picking up some Ruby Redbird from HEB this weekend. It has hit the shelves.

I thought Lutter might want to know. :grinning:

Did I say I minded Ruby Redbird? I was kinda 'meh' at first, but it's at least original.

They need to put more hops in it and make it like a grapefruit IPA.

I wasn't very found of ruby redbird at first. I might not be found of it a second or even a 15th. But I'll give it another shot. Can's are always cool. Can't wait to lure some friends up to Garner with this beer. Garner is tons of fun. It's too bad you can't bring in alcohol but that didn't stop us last year. Best vacation ever.

Had to break my friends hearts eventually and I tweeted this the other day
"Hey remember when there was shiner blonde and now there's not and there's shiner premier? Yeaaaahhhh......"

Two people favorited it and everyone else probably took back the "this new Shiner is better than any other I've ever had" that they said. I try not to be a snob about it but it's hard to tell them no matter how I say it.

I like shiner beers. The blonde is a favorite. They're always kicking ass at festivals too. I don't drink it much any more but they were a big part of my craft beer transformation.

First batch of Ruby Redbird was great. Very grapefruit forward and quite refreshing after a few hours of yardwork on a hot summer day. Second batch was not as good, because the grapefruit was much more muted.

I'm anxious to see how this year's comes out, and thankfully there is literally a mountain of it at my local HEB.

Funny. At a local grocery store today Shiner Premium was sitting right next to Shiner Blonde. Premium was $6.99 a 6pk, Blonde was $7.99 a 6pk... Cause it's aged Blonde? :grinning:

Can someone explain to me what all the hubbub's about? Why is Shiner knocked so much?

They do nothing "extreme" or "beer nerdy" enough for us. Also, most of their line up is average, gateway beer. Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is. I believe the consensus would be if you're in a restaurant that doesn't have craft but see a Shiner on tap you're happy to drink it but you wouldn't exactly go buy a 6pk at the store.

Shiner seasonals are very enjoyable. Maybe not world class, but still good.

    Don't forget your roots, people.

I do not remember the last time I have wanted a shiner. Maybe college? It comes down to that there is always a better beer in each style than shiner. Always. If I go to a beer store, I will never get shiner because there is something better and in the same price range. For example, the Shiner Hefe, it is a weak attempt at a hefe. Live Oak Hefe is 10x better. Granted, it isn't in bottles, but I normally don't buy hefes anyways.

If it came down to macro vs. Shiner. I will take a Shiner.
