Funny you should share this. My one friend that loves Belgians, I was at his dad's birthday party. I shared with his dad a St. Bernardus Abt 12, and I shared with him a Coors Light. He liked Abt 12. I didn't mind Coors Light. As long as we were sharing brews we both enjoy together. Who knows maybe I'm old school.

I am pretty selective regarding who I share with at this point. I have a couple buddies with good palates and (more importantly) a bona fide interest in craft beer. I share with them because they appreciate new tastes and share my interest. Many other people I don't bother with, not to sound harsh.

a friend of mine i shared some of my Utopias with said it tasted like farm animals. probably would have liked it better had he sat in silence and sipped his portion rather than telling me that about the $30 pour i gave him. guess who no longer gets any beers of mine to taste

Commonality? Old friends? Settling in? Cultural traditions? Any of these sound at all familiar?

Maybe it would have helped if I'd have smacked you upside the head with the joke. Or, maybe it wouldn't have...

Maybe it would have helped if your guest had told you flat out they weren't overly impressed?

If you read my post, you'd know the answer is yes. I didn't make the beer. I understand people have different tastes. Just say you're not a fan, offer me the rest of the glass, and we are good

A couple of weeks ago I offered a friend who drinks Bud Light a glass of Bear Republic Racer X and his reply was "are you trying to kill me?", would that be better for you?

So its come to this? Op, if you feel you need to enjoy these beers with people you shouldn't throw it in their face when they don't react to them the same way you do. Not everyone has the same palate, and the fact that you bring price and bottle waxing into this makes me think your intentions may not be as pure as you make them sound. My suggestion, man up and drink it yourself if you can't handle thr fact that some people don't appreciate beer as much as you do, at least you know the person drinking it will match your level of appreciation...

Not reading through this whole thread, but dude, just go in your regional forum and find a tasting group to join.

EDIT: Also, if they aren't in to craft beer what the crap would the person care if it is a $15 wax top to begin with? Unless you come right out and say, "hey, this beer is pretty special to me, it was like, $15 whole dollars and it has this fancy wax on it." Then maybe the person who could care as much about craft as I care about window dressings would feel an onus to be polite and have an opinion for you.

I put a 4pk together for a family Christmas exchange, (zombie dust, abrasive, backwoods, and another local) watched some people fight over it as the dice rolling/stealing portion of the game commenced. That was all the confirmation I needed.

Now you're overreacting, certainly. Or you're just an overly clutchy person to begin with.

I'm thinking you are sharing for the wrong reasons with comments like these. If you want it for yourself, don't bring it out with others.

This thread pisses me off more and more.let me tell you a story biff. I went to dry dock and coughed up my hard earned money for a growler of breakwater pale ale. I knew I would be brewing that weekend and I also knew my buddy was coming over to help. So I order a pizza and bring out the growler during my boil. I asked what he thought and he said it was pretty good. I could tell it wasn't his cup of tea, so instead of being a dick and asking for his unfinished portion I snuck down to my basement and brought up a parabola instead because I know he likes stouts. That's what this is all about. You want to make your friends happy? Give them beer they like and watch them smile, don't give them beer you like and get pissed they don't like it as much as you.

Why share good beer with someone who won't care?

Brought a buddy of mine, a 4 pack of Hop, Drop and Roll from Charlotte. Keep in mind, he has always told me what an "IPA man he is". Had him over and gave him the beer to try....he milked the first one, and left the other three in my fridge that night....

Thankfully, I enjoyed them for him... :sunglasses:
