No question its a quality ale. But in the Chicago area, among beer connoisseurs , its spoken of in reverent tones. Whence named one can almost hear the Angels singing and lotsa luck finding it in a Liquor store if you dont know the owner.

I just had my first 2 bottles ever. My rating is posted.

I remember when Coors east of the Rockies was the apple Eve gave to Adam, or whoever gave what to whom. It was the big score of the '70s, and brother, it was as crap then as it is now.

Im not saying Zombie is crap, far from it, but are Beer lovers being manipulated by a clever brewer who makes it hard to find in order to enhance its street cred? Or do we give it "5"'s cause something has to be a "5"?

Or is it just that dang good?

Its just that good. I had it the other day for the first time, and it very well may be one of my favorites. Even after just the one..luckily I have another one to reinforce this.

I thing one thing that helps is that it is listed as a "Pale Ale" when many would personally call it an "IPA".

I think it easily stands out among other Pale Ales, thus increasing the rating, that may not be as high if it was an IPA.

It's amazing. Get a big imperial pint at the FFF brewpub and just sip on it for awhile.

I agree...but I think it is crap...also, I believe they changed the recipe. It is much maltier, has a darker SRM and the hops are not as bright as they usually are...hopefully they keep this post, but i am sure they will delete it...

I think that the brewing limitations of FFF enhance the street cred of this beer more than anything.

I love this beer personally. At 2/3 the price though, I'll be purchasing Deschutes Red Chair for a while instead.

It's a fantastic beer IMO. People who aren't even beer drinkers come into the store asking for it regularly. Some don't even care to try other IPAs. It's just the allure of what is hard to find.

I love it. It's a little catty to me if consumed within a week of bottling. Two week old ZD is probably my favorite session beer. I just wish a 6-pack was $10.99 and easy to find.

Hype; that's it. Not saying it's not really good, but it's no better than countless other Pale Ales

Is this like asking if any of the "5's" are actually a 5? I've had ZD in a bottle, on draft, and from a cask. It's fucking glorious every time, all the time.

It doesn't make sense for it to be hype. Why hype? Because its FFF? Then why are countless other year around FFF beers sitting on the shelves for weeks/months? Its not any rarer than the other 6ers, just so much better that it sells out fastest. When it's name was changed to Zombie Dust and first available (I think) at DLD 2011, my entire table drank almost nothing but ZD. We were there for the BA beers and drank mostly a pale ale.

I do not think its the best pale ale in the world, but it deserves its ranking among them.

It's not a 100 (few are) but it's a phenomenal pale ale. Every bit of a 96, if you ask me.

I agree with this. I used to work at a bar that got kegs of ZD regularly and there was a noticeable change in the recipe....right around the same time they took off any mention of Citra hops on the description.

I know this is said all the time, but it really used to be better. I would buy cases from the brewery all the time, now not so much.

And forget trying to find that shit outside the brewery unless it's on tap. I'm done with chasing beers.

To quote Good Beer Hunting, "I'm not chasing whales anymore, I'm going for minnows"

That's a very interesting point about their website not mentioning Citra hops. That would explain why I was a little disappointed with ZD, since I went into it expecting big fruitiness and it was more subdued than that.
