every bottle in that picture has the same description of the beer so I would guess they are all the same?...

Probably another marketing ploy like w00tstout, different art bottles.

They are all possible bottle designs. They haven't decided which one to use yet.

Enjoyed the past batches of this. Like the new name.

Wish they brought back the Kentucky Rye version!

I like the bottle design on the far left the most and would really like to try this, but it'll never show up anywhere within 20 miles of the house so... carry on.

Wish I had a chance to try it, but I shouldn't complain too much :stuck_out_tongue: I can't wait for these! Might crack a Guardian now to celebrate

The one on the far left looks like Slayer album so I vote for that one. Crime and Punishment made it up here so I got my fingers crossed this one will.

Can someone please tell me how some BA beers accrue an additional 3% abv, while others don't have anything added?

My assumptions have always been the following possibilities:

-Some barrels have more residual booze in them than others.

-There is a give/take in terms of alcohol percentage accuracy (some decide it's not worth noting the alcohol increase, some decide to notate and embellish).

    - A combination of the two (this seems likely in Stone's OG going from 11% to 14%)

You won't drive more than 20 miles from your house to obtain something? Shit, I thought Germans complained about driving "long" distances...

The former assumption is more true than the latter. Depending on how much spirit has absorbed into the barrel, BA beers can pick up a varying degree of alcohol. We've had beer gain upward of 7% ABV just from barrel aging.
As for the alcohol content. The government regulates this very closely. You only get +/- 0.2% of variation from the statement on the label, so breweries better be paying attention to alcohol pickup or the feds will come a-knockin'

As far as some gaining and some not: it might be that BA beer is blended back with non BA beer to bring the overall percentage back down. Or, the barrels haven't held spirits, OR the barrels are not first use...AKA most of the ABV gain will be used up and the wood will become more neutral.

I think it also has to do with how long the beer was aged in the barrel. Some beers like BCBS, Brooklyn Balck Ops are aged for 4 months, while other beers like KBS, Parabola etc are aged for at least 12 months.

No doubt, I forgot to mention that in my little scenario. I have considered that as well.
