10 Bucks for 600 ml of Beaus? What do they think this stuff is, Bogwater?

I really hope that is sarcasm.

Yeah, we all revel in the disappointment that is Beau's.

I think all he was trying to say was that there's definitely home town love for Beau's the same way there's home town love for Bellwoods in Toronto. I don't think his intent was to insult every Ottawa area BA.

No offense taken... Just pointing out that for a good number of us here in Ottawa, Beau's has been a little underwhelming as of late. I would like to hear from some of the other regular Ottawa area BA members to hear their perspective. Agree? Disagree?

Beau's has definitely not been wowing anyone who frequents the serious beer scene lately. Where they score so many points is with the casual beer fan b/c of Tom Green, etc, etc. While they try to mix it up with different styles, they've failed to deliver a big, reliable, IIPA or Imperial Stout worth remembering.

Beyond The Pale is the only brewery Ottawa is talking about these days.

While we're on the subject. What the hell is up with the pricing? $40 bucks for 4 beers, 2 of which I know I won't like to begin with. Yikes. This stuff will sell in Ottawa though, fast too. What a shame.

Too bad we're talking about how unimpressed with Beau's we are and not about how unimpressed we are with the Spring release in general

Guess I'll just hafta buy more Rhyme & Reason

    Yep.

The majority of those in Ottawa with "massive erections" probably don't even know what an old ale or wheat wine is. They'll sell for local name value and Beau's amazing advertising. Appreciate the Ottawa generalization though.

That said, I don't have an issue with Beau's besides pricing. I'll buy the old ale and saison. I guess I only have half an erection.

The erection comment was just a joke about locals loving their local breweries and wasn't meant to offend you Ottawa folks. I myself will buy one of each of the Beau's feature except for the ginger beer since I'm not a fan of ginger.

The spring release while being lacklustre does have the potential to produce a few sleepers. Thornbridge has never disappointed me and I was hoping that they would get a feature. Also looking forward to the Oakham and Amager as well. I was even a fan of Morsure as well so I will pick up at least another one of that. Thankfully this release comes at a time when I have an abundance of bottles at home that need to be opened so I have more than enough to compensate for a fairly boring release.

...And while we're on the subject of local, re: Bellwoods and Beau's.

Bellwoods is IN TORONTO. Try telling people in Kanata that Beau's is local.

@tbeckett makes an excellent point. Beau's is killing it with the casual craft beer drinker. And lets be honest, right now and for the foreseeable future are going to be 9 or 10 of those people for every one of us in Ontario. The only thing I wonder is what Beau's marketing strategy actually is. Maybe they are trying to cater to me as a customer?

Perhaps peensteen can give a bit more insight as he seems to have some inside info at LCBO, but I heard rumors that both Victory and Dogfish Head were in negotiations to come to the LCBO, but something broke down...too bad, would have been nice to see Victory in Ontario.

Victory and Dogfish Head have been burned badly in their back charge system by the LCBO so really doubt they would be coming back.

The way I look at it the more craft breweries there are doing interesting the things the better. I may not like all of the one off's that Beau's produces but I like some of them and am always willing to try another (although as others have said with that price point I am more likely to hope someone else buys a bottle and shares it with me). And the more support those breweries get from people the greater their ability to produce beer (hopefully stuff I enjoy) and perhaps the greater likelihood that another craft brewery opens up (either because of actual or perceived market segment growth) that exlusively makes things I like.
