Pottsville, PA (February 2014) – D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc., America’s Oldest Brewery, is pleased to announce that it is expanding the distribution of its highly sought after brands to Massachusetts.

Seven wholesalers have been assigned to distribute Yuengling products in the state. Yuengling welcomes the following Massachusetts distributors: Atlas Distributing, Craft Brewers Guild, Girardi Distributing, L. Knife Distributing, Quality Distributing, Seaboard Distributing and Williams Distributing.

The initial rollout, slated for early March, will include Yuengling’s flagship beer Yuengling Lager as well as Light Lager, and Black & Tan brands.

Numerous additions and upgrades to Yuengling’s production capabilities facilitated this venture. This expansion is a return to the state after scaling back in the 1990’s due to supply limitations. Massachusetts the fifteenth state in the brewery’s footprint.

Saw reports that they want 5% of beer market in MA. I'm skeptical they can acheive that after the initial six months of nostalgia/curiousity purchases.

They are putting a SERIOUS amount of resources into this brand. I went to the launch party at one of the distributors yesterday and the production and "show" was crazy. There is another one tomorrow that seems to be even bigger. Its going to hit in a big way, but as Longstaff said, the true test is what it looks like after the first few months.

I'm curious to see what happens with on-premise accounts and how any take a bud/Sam/harpoon/etch draft line and put on a Yuengling.

I was at Atlas yesterday also. Those guys know how to throw a party.
I wonder about pricing though. The college kids from out of state that ask if we have it say it's inexpensive and that's why they drink it. However I heard it was the same price as Bud/Coors.

You're looking at 5.99/6pk, 11-12 bucks a 12pk, basically the same cost of bud at most stores. I'm not sure on the keg pricing.

Doubt Samuel Adams and Harpoon are going to be direct targets and if there are any sales guys that go down that road they'll be fighting an up-hill battle.

Walk into any bar that has Bud, Miller and Coors on tap and ask them to knock off the one that sells the least for Yuengling and I am sure the bar's sales will increase. I am sure the sales guys already have this in their battle plan. PBR, Schlitz, and Narragansett will be taking a hit as well. If they flood the market and price it well then 5% market share in MA should be pretty easy to get to IMO.

Doesn't sound like what the kid from Jersey going to college in Worcester is used to paying back home.

Most liquors stores I go into in my area of MA price BMC a buck more than that. Bottom line, I predict Narragansett taking it on the chin a bit with the arrival of Yuengling. Hope that doesn't put off any plans to build a brewery in RI.

I don't know, man...I think their reputation goes beyond nostalgia and curiosity. I know an awful lot of people who would haul back a couple cases if they were traveling a couple states out or request friends and family members visiting from out that way to bring some. And that's not even considering transplants who swear by the stuff. I think they're going to do pretty well.

The PBR drinking hipster contingent will switch to Yeungling almost overnight

Moved to MA from TX a month ago and would love to see Narragansett or BMC taps switch to Yuengling. Narragansett makes me miss Lone Star...and that's saying something.

And quality-wise, it absolutely should be imo , but the market in MA is going to dictate a dirt cheap price.

Anyone have any idea what 5% of the MA beer market is, either in dollars or bbl?

180,000 bbls is a 5% share in MA. So essentially the size of Harpoon (they sold 200k last year) but in multiple states.

Was lucky enough to get an invite to the Yuengling Launch party last night, and it was a great event. Really packed the Seaport for an awesome party with Lager, Light and Black & Tan -- all in bottles and on tap. Have always loved the beer and had my NY friends bring it back for me; looking forward to drinking in bars in a couple weeks. Hope they do well here.

Great party last night at the Seaport World Trade Center ... word was going around that that someone spent $300K+ on the party alone. Hearing of bars that are already stocked with glassware for the March 1st launch and competing distributors are a bit worried about this launch.
