Over the years I've heard the term "meaty" used in beer as in a mouth feel experience. I finally experience that feeling yesterday. I had a Blue Point Hoptical Illusion at the Big Brew Big Festival in Morristown NJ. I felt a very noticeable thicker mouth feel than most beers. An almost caramelly syrupy full-bodied texture to it. VERY enjoyable. I hope to find more of these "thicker/meatier"(?) beers.

    And suggestions? Much appreciated!

Are you sure that you don't mean 'chewy?' I've never heard meaty applied to mouth feel. (Except for maybe a Rauchbier that tastes like bacon.)

Chewy works too. I just like meaty.

I've had plenty of chewy beers. When the mouth feel seems bready, and kind of viscous, that's what your detecting.

Hoptical Illusion, especially fresh, can definitely have a 'chewy' mouth feel if you are not used to drinking it.

Brooklyn Pennant Ale, while a relatively light beer, can also have that 'chewy' feel due to the high content of biscuit malts used to brew the beer.

Meaty means autolysis, or a yeasty character generally associated with really poor or unfavorable fermentation conditions or bad bottle conditioning. Also described as a "hot dog" flavor. Really full bodied beers are chewy which is a good thing. Given the right audience saying it is meaty may not be the best description. Hope that helps!

EDIT: Here is what I am talking about if this provides further explination on meaty....

    (Information from (http://www.annarbor.com/entertainment/a-lesson-in-beer-bad-beer/)

Autolyzed: If your beer smells meaty or like soy sauce or marmite, this is most likely a result of the death and decomposition of yeast cells in the bottle. In small amounts it can add a certain complexity to higher alcohol beers. In large amounts it can make you feel like you are drinking a glass of soy sauce.

Thanks. Maybe I'll start using chewy instead.

I've found that a lot of IPA's that have a darker more amber color have that chewy feeling. Try Dogfish 60 or 90, Founders Centennial or Red's, Cigar City Jai Alai. Also really rich full flavored porters and stouts do the trick too. Smuttynose Robust Porter, Anchor Porter, Bell's Double Cream Stout come to mind first.

I'll be honest OP, 'meaty' is not an adjective I've yet heard to describe mouthfeel, but I think I get where you're coming from.

Both from mouthfeel and taste profile, I think the 'meatiest' beers I've tasted has been HOTD Adam. Boulevard BBQ also comes to mind, but I think I'm just recalling how big and hot the alcohol was on it. Either way, I definitely look for chewiness in a beer…after all, I do have a wookie in my avatar

Double Simcoe from Weyerbacher is what you call "Meaty" for an IIPA. Another "Meaty" IIPA is Maharajah from Avery. But full on the palate "Meaty" check out Mephistopheles from Avery.

I thought it was "Meaty" from the charred oak which gives off the bacon undertones to that Stout? Egh, whatever, I'm easy.

Pretty Things Barbapapa is like drinking fudge brownie mix. It makes Ten Fidy look like Bud-Light-Lime-Select... and that's almost impossible to do!!! Best non-bba RIS I've ever had!!! Soooooooo crazy thick!
