The Mad Scientists have turned the Saison into the American Craft "Seison" for their latest release to debut this week in various markets.

After several years of formulations we are happy to release a draft only version of our Seison. For a detailed explanation please see below, and for a list of locations near you pouring the beer, make sure to download the Sixpoint app.

Can you tell us what hop varietals are used and in what capacity (bittering, aroma, if there's any dry-hopping, etc)?

"This Urban Farmhouse ale complements Belgian yeast with bold hops"

Translation: This Urban "Farmhouse ale" will be hoppy, therefore it won't taste like a farmhouse ale.

Yes it definitely is there right now. Are you referring to Eli Cannon's by chance?

Sure. We use Columbus, Galaxy, Cascade, and Hallertauer in the Kettle, and Cascade and Citra in the dry hopping stages.

Have you tried a lot of authentic farmhouse ales? Most of them have abundant hop flavor, especially when accentuated by the extra carbonation and spicy character of the yeast.

Went out for deliveries yesterday in NJ.

Hey Jack, how 'bout you just focus on the liquid and taste of the beer? ;-)

But you'll be happy - its not from Lion.

    cheers

exactly, you are looking beers that had IBU levels of 40-50IBU, and when fresh, were bursting with hop aroma and flavor

“Hey Jack, how 'bout you just focus on the liquid and taste of the beer?”

Shane, I agree 100% that “taste of the beer” is the important factor. The challenge is that the Sixpoint beers that are not brewed at the Sixpoint Brooklyn brewery suffer from inconsistency/poor quality. I think you would agree with me that a beer of poor quality is not a tasty beer.

As you are well aware, I purchased a 4-pack of Crisp that reeked of diacetyl (a strong buttery flavor). There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this excess diacetyl was a brewery issue with nothing to do with distribution or retail storage.

I subsequently purchased a 4-pack of Apollo. That 4-pack was fresh and I purchased it cold from the retailer. I immediately placed the 4-pack in my home refrigerator. Over the course of 1-2 months I consumed those 4 cans. The first two cans were pleasant and drinkable but the 3rd can had an off flavor indicative of an infection. The 4th can did as well and I had to drain pour 50% of my purchase.

To demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am not the brightest individual, I purchased a 4-pack of Autumnation last fall (I wanted to drink an all Mosaic hopped beer). That 4-pack did not have off flavors but it was a very mediocre beer.

As you can read above I have made multiple purchases of Sixpoint canned beer (that I assume was produced at the Lion Brewery) and not one of them was of high quality. To use your verbiage of “taste”, none of these three purchases represented a beer that had good “taste” (with the possible exception of the first 2 cans of Apollo).

Your statement: “its not from Lion” it not a 100% open and transparent answer to my question of “where is the beer brewed?” Did you brew Seison at City Brewing Company in Memphis for example? As a beer consumer I have a strong desire to know where the beer that I purchase is brewed. Based upon my discussion above, I truly think that you can understand that.

So, permit me to enquire one more time: Where is draft Seison brewed?

    Cheers!

    Jack

P.S. You really should list on the can labels where your beers are brewed. Listing a location of Brooklyn may be compliant to the TTB regulations but it is not an ethical business practice.

P.S.S. I will repeat once again that I am a fan of Sixpoint beers that are brewed at the Brooklyn brewery location. Every Sixpoint beer that I have drink that was brewed specifically at the Brooklyn brewery location was of high quality and “tasty” to use your preferred descriptor.

I have indeed. Hops (and particularly American hops) pretty much always completely overpower any semblance of Belgian yeast esters in my experience. Even if I like the resulting beer it doesn't resemble the beers Belgium is known and loved for.

No but I'm about 95% positive I wouldn't like it and wouldn't find it very saison-y even if I did like. I honestly don't think I've ever had a Belgian beer that still tasted Belgian with an IBU of maybe 35, certainly nothing over 40 IBU.

Knowing this, it would be very interesting to hear what you think of the "Seison."

But, too bad we don't have distribution in Antarctica (yet).

Long journey, but we'd save on refrigeration costs. :-)

Now you can understand why I want 3Beans....one of the few beers that doesn't freeze on the way over.
