having a HF harlan ipa and holy christ, the grapefruit is so pungent from start to finish...borderline drinking grapefruit juice, but very enjoyable just the same...anyone have an ipa that gives them a onesided flavor profile like grapefruit

Try the Stochasticity Project/Stone's "Grapefruit Slam IPA" but be prepared for the bitterness!

Not an IPA but I find Nugget Nectar to be overwhelmingly grapefruity.

I get a good deal of grapefruit, without the bitterness, in Hop Ranch.

I get a lot of grapefruit from All Day IPA. I love it.

I completely agree. Too many "beers" taste nothing like beer. BA really needs to add a "flavored malt beverage" category.

Yup, Oakham's Ale's Citra is beer flavoured grapefruit juice. I love it. When I'm in the mood for something fruity I'll take grapefruit any day over orange rind and pine needles.

Look, I really don't mean to be the doosh who starts another BA argument and I understand that the point of this site is for everyone to voice their opinion and discuss beer related topics but come on guys. Why do you think its called an IPA? DIPA? IIPA? Porter? Stout? you get the picture... Its all beer but different types of beer, if you want a beer that tastes like the general consensus of "beer" then dude go buy a case of budweiser. I really do hate being a dick but the OP wasn't asking "hey three comments in can someone derail the thread by politely mocking all of us?" I know I'm not helping the situation by being "that guy" and I don't mean to call you guys out (Sponan and Marquis) because you weren't by any means at all being jerks so please don't take offense I'm just voicing some pent up frustration from my years of browsing the BA forums (only been a member for less than a year but have always read through the forums). I guess I feel like lately half the threads I read are quickly derailed because someone has to challenge the foundation of the argument at hand. Anyways, I'm probably just drunk, but I had to get that off my chest. Sorry for calling you out fellas. You genuinely weren't rude, mean, or offensive. I just couldn't hold it in any longer. Cheers gentleman (and ladies). And by the way, love me some headhunter, such a bitter beer. On the other hand, Fathead's other limited release IPA, IBUsive, I swear tastes like it's headhunter's father. I taste and smell so much similarity between the two but IBUsive is a bit more bitter, resinous, and intense (hop-wise). Oh and I mean that in a good way, man do I love that beer!

I don't disagree. Lots of crap thrown into beer.

But I'm not sure why you guys are calling out the OP or the beers mentioned in this thread. Harlan, Hop Ranch, Oakham Citra (btw hoppsbabo - had this on cask last time I was in London - amazing), All Day, Nelson, NN (the ones from the thread I've tried) - none that I'm aware of use grapefruit as an adjunct - people just get a grapefruit note from the hop profile - what's wrong with that.

OP - another HF beer that fits the bill - Abner

It's one thing to complain about a beer not tasting like "beer" because of things being added like fruit extracts, fresh fruit, chocolate, and so on. I see no reason to complain about a beer having fruity notes from the standard ingredients of hops, grain, and yeast. It doesn't get much more "beer" than that.

Although I get all citrus out of it, the grapefruit is strong in the Omnipollo Fatamorgana.

    • Maine Lunch. Good times. Perfect beer.
    • Tropical fruit up front (grapefruit/mango/apricot) leading to a perfect bitter finish.

and what exactly does BEER taste like...you would agree that certain styles give off certain notes right? if you think your stouts, of hefeweizens just taste like BEER, and dont give off certain notes, then u are buying the wrong beer

im sure you could buy chocolate milk much cheaper than your average stout, and if thats what you would prefer to do then delete your account

i, on the other hand, like to explore the different flavors that certain styles give off and was wondering if anyone else got a ton of grapefrut, for example, from certain ipas they have had

but i think you already knew that  ....go search for "likes" somewhere else

But if we went with their premise, reviewing beers would become so much easier.

Bell's Hopslam: Tastes like beer so I give it a 4.6.

If we can't evoke gym sock, barnyard, burnt sugar, cat piss, and buttered popcorn, then what are we left with?
