Agreed. American pale whats typically do not contain spices, and wits tend to have a more sour citrus character to them. American pale wheats are a lot more variable, you can get relatively tasteless examples or something that tastes earthy and a bit spicy like a root cellar, or you can get IPA levels of hopping with tons of citrus and pine.

I'm grading papers for my students who just completed an assignment where they needed to replicate a week of being on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (previously named Food Stamps). As you would imagine, in their papers they continuously write the abbreviation for the program: "SNAP." Every time I read it, I see it as SNPA instead and think "Sierra Nevada Pale Ale."

If you tell people your hobbies are golf in the summer and beer the rest of the year.

If you have ever followed a distributor truck to see where it was going. Then waited 30 minutes for It to be unloaded and truck to leave, Then casually walk in and say....so you guys get anything new in?

If you know what day and time every liquor store in a 20 mile radius gets their deliveries.

If you are brought into the back room at the store to taste some beer that owner might start carrying, if you like it.

    Oh I can't like this one enough^^

But it gets better. How about the ocassional inquiry from your spouse, who is kind but perplexed, asking, "So if you wanna save it for a few years, why do you have multiples?"
Then you explain the idea of opening one "soon" and then the following bottles about 1 and 2 years out. The perplexed look turns to slight annoyance...
And you mistakeingly think an expalanation of "vertical tasting" will help...It didn't help:flushed:

When you beer mail somebody all night long and think "He's gonna send me some Alaskan beer. Dayum I'm gonna have to get up off my lazy ass and send him some Okie stuff." I like the friendship that beer has caused.

    1. ...if you have a spreadsheet that is fully sortable by beer name, brewery, state, country, style, ABV, number of bottles and vintage to track your beerventory.
      1. ...and you color code it to remember if you've had a beer before and if it is slated for long-term aging or not.
      2. ...and you open that spreadsheet once every day or two to make sure it is still accurate.
    2. ...if you come back to this thread after it has been raised from the dead and read almost every single post again, because it's so entertaining to read about all the quirks you share with your fellow BAs.
    3. ...if you buy sixers of beer with the likelihood of gifting out at least three of the beers to friends.
    4. ...if you overhear customer questions while sitting at the bar at your favorite watering hole ready to offer suggestions if the bartender doesn't come up with any right away.
      1. ...and trying to hold your tongue until it's socially appropriate to interject yourself because you're so excited about sharing said suggestions.
