I'll take the roughly $20 (two bottles) of over 17% Uncle Jacob's over the roughly $15 for 22 ounces of 11% Parabola. And I really like Parabola--picked up two bottles yesterday. Just my opinion; there's plenty of Avery haters that are going to disagree with me on this.

I'm not an Avery hater but after having an Uncle Jacobs I have to say that this is flat out crazy. Parabola doesn't taste like rubbing alcohol. :sunglasses:

I generally prefer my beer to hide the alcohol and while there's no denying that the alcohol shows itself in it, I never found it too offensive at all. Thought it worked with the beer quite well to be honest.

I don't put a ton of stock in ABV, especially when it gets to double digits. I don't mind if it's hidden or pronounced, there just needs to be balance. I think UJ is an awesome beer and have really enjoyed it as a sipping beer while I watch movies. It's perfect for a two hour flick. I find Parabola to be just a bit more drinkable overall and find its balance to be superb. Taste is subjective and I'm super happy to have a cellar full of both UJ and Parabola.

Like Fish stated, Parabola is a ton more drinkable than UJ. The Parabola heat is minuscule compared to UJ. I think UJ needs to sit in a proper cellar for a year to five, and mellow a bit. Parabola will also do will to sit, but us a ton more drinkable right now.

Comparing apples to oranges here. These are two completely different beers. The Parabola is a mix of different barrels, not just bourbon.

I (and several friends who were at the release) thought that for as high of alcohol there is in the UJ, it was hidden well. None of us thought it was "hot" at all. We all thought it was quite drinkable and far from tasting like rubbing alcohol.

I must just be really sensitive to it then because I only had six ounces and I felt like I could light my breath on fire. :slight_frown:

Pliny that arrives 4 days after bottling (like this past march) or Pliny that arrives a month after bottling (like April)? Ive noticed a big difference over the past year or so in our shipments. The stuff that arrives super fresh is second only to chuck Norris tears. Month old stuff has a significant drop off which I attribute more to the delivery than the aging of the beer.

You can't drink Chuck Norris' tears, they drink you!

I agree, the delivery hurts more than the age. Not sure if Elite has refrigerated warehouse or not. Trucks? I assume so....but assuming makes Chuck Norris mad

I thought Vinny required refrigeration of PtE to gain access? Or was that Firestone Walker?

just cracked open my first bottle of uncle jacobs... i stockpiled a few bottle for possible trading. changed my mind, phenominal brew, not losing any bottles for anything out there. someone above said it's boozy, and i agree. if i exhaled through my nose as i drank it forced the alcohol into my eyes and made them burn. but i've had 9% abv beers do that as well. it hides the booze very well, untill you go to wash your glass out and can't walk.

I think it hides the booze very nicely but with that said I also think this will be fantastic with a little cellar time.

It IS boozy...but a lot of beers that are literally half the ABV sometimes can also taste "boozy". The fact that its damn near 18% says a LOT about how non-boozy it actually is in comparison.

Either way. Tastes great!! I have ONE beer left for trading/gifting...unless something really, really, really good comes my way...the other 10 are staying here, at least 6 are being aged for future epic verticals haha.

It's an annual release, brewed once/year, not technically a seasonal.

I can't believe this is on the shelves still. Probably the price is keeping most people from trying it.
