I have noticed some Palate Wrecker on the shelves with a Best By Date of 06/27/14...how fresh is it?

I think they go 6 months so that would have been bottled on 12/27/2013 but I am not 100% sure. Anything within 3 months of the best by date by Green Flash is off limits when I buy beer. I dont understand why everyone doesnt just put a bottled on date...

I thought GF had bottled on dates, not best by dates?

I had a Saison Diego hopefully nine months after bottling (could have been nine months after the best by date) and it was an overcarbed, spicy mess.

I thought so too. It even says on their site that they provide Bottled on dates. But see for yourself...

The four pack I bought recently had a best by date of july something.

The ink on these, and on Lost Abbey's recent bottles, is pretty weak. A quick swipe or a little moisture removes them pretty fast.

I will start looking, not sure I've ever seen a GF with dating. I got burned about a year or so ago on some stale hophead red down in Arkansas...

Over the last year or two GF bottle dating has been wildly inconsistent. The placement of the date has changed, the color of the ink has changed, and they have switched between bottled on date and best by date. Also, the ink rubs off easy.

I used to love GF, but have lost my taste for their beers.

Best By dates are idiotic for IPAs that have to travel cross-country. I love Green Flash on tap, but I never buy their beers at a liquor store because I've had too many experiences where their IPAs say best by within a month or two, despite being a malty mess.

I wish Bottled On dates were considered mandatory for IPAs.

Just drank one the other night. Had a best by date of 6/30/2104 I think. Definitely not a bottled on date.

Yeah, I don't know when it's "really" best by, but I recently tried West Coast IPA for the first time, with a best by that was almost 2 months out, and in my opinion, it wasn't a good representation of what I think a West Coast IPA should be...

I was just wondering this myself and the little research I did I came up empty handed. I had an Imperial IPA that had a best by sometime in late June. It tasted really fresh at least that's something to go off of.

My guess is that -- at least with IPAs -- they should subtract a couple months off of their "best by" date. It almost seems like they have someone who doesn't like IPAs judging how long they're still good for.

I have a couple four packs of Palate Wrecker, all bottles best by May 27th. It's on the fringe right now, but even if it changes a bit, I won't mind, I love me some Palate Wrecker, it's usually my last beer before going to bed, and I give it all the credit lately for getting a great nights sleep!

Enjoying a West Coast IPA right now, marked best by 07/30/14 on the neck of the bottle. Just picked up the 4 pack this evening.

I usually treat a GF best by as a "subtract 6 months" kind of deal. If I subtract 6 months and it is less than 2 months ago, it is worth a shot, sometimes good.

Yeah it pisses me off that they switched, I feel like its a conscious effort to sell less than fresh beer, and a step in the wrong direction. I've stopped buying their beer.

Two month IPA's can be a disaster, and GF brews are kinda pricy to begin with. I'd pass for IPA's with bottle dates on them.

Yeah, 6 months after bottled is wayyy too far for IPAs in my opinion...2 months to best by is 4 months from bottled and that is too long in my opinion too...
