sharing beer is a lot of fun, i really enjoy breaking out some good stuff with a group of people who appreciate it. that being said, having a great big glass(or two) of something amazing is a great experience as well. i find that i rarely do this aside from the occasional 12oz bottle of KBS, BBPT5, BC ect. i almost never open any larger format bottles unless im sharing them but the thought has crossed my mind. so my question is who out there has cracked open something on the rarer side and drank it all to yourself and what was it?

I drank a Parabola on New Years Day while my wife drank some wine. It was a win!

Several times. Two 2012 bcbcs bombers and a cherry rye were consumed all by myself (on different occasions) and I enjoyed every sip. Granted it took a long time (2-3 hours) each session.

And no I don't feel guilty for not sharing.

    Well done.

My 250th was a 2012 bbpt5 this past new years eve, by myself!

I actually do this all the time. I LOOOVE to share beers and do it every chance I get, but I just don't have as many opportunities to share as I have beers.

In the last couple months, I've opened all of the following beers to enjoy on my own: FW 17, Double DBA, Anchorage Love Buzz, Tart of Darkness, Allagash Curieux and White Chocolate. The trick is to either plan on only having that one bottle in a night or to plan on saving some to the next day (which I've found works pretty well with sour ales).

Not sure I'd call any of those beers full-on "rare", but they aren't ones I can just go pick up anytime I want.

I only share my really good beer with friends that reciprocate.

I used to go after only the 12 oz. bottles in my cellar, but then I thought that the big bottles are taking up most of the space in my beer fridge and I need that space to buy more beer. So I started knocking off the bigger bottles. I might find a way to share, or I might drink a portion of it and cork it for tomorrow, or I might drink the entire bottle. But I am knocking them off and slowly gaining space in my fridge.

I work at a bar that sells a ton of craft beer so me and my fellow bartenders split bottles all the time and when I'm not there my girlfriend splits them with me at home, she even goes in half on most of my beer buying.

I always share any super rare stuff that I get (which happens very rarely), but I'll drink limited stuff by myself. After I first had Huna last year and fell in love with it, I made sure all of my close craft-beer loving friends who hadn't had it before got to try it the next two times I had it, but the next two bottles I traded for were just for me.

Whenever I get my hands on a good sour that's limited but not super rare, I usually share it with just my GF. She usually drinks about a third of the bottle and I drink the rest.

I try never too drink anything considered too rare without at least my son in law partaking with me but not realizing just how rare CBS was going to be mananged to put a bottle down by myself. Think that may be the "rariest" for me to drink alone since I would much rather share the experience.

I almost always drink by myself after the kids go to sleep, since I don't know many beer geeks, and the ones I do know don't live near me. I'll occasionally share something with my wife, but only if I absolutely know she'll like it, like a sour or a lambic.

If I have company over that I know may appreciate a good beer then I'll share something, although not too rare. A couple of weeks ago I went to my parents for dinner and brought a bottle of Enjoy By to share with my brother and sister-in-law. That was much appreciated all around.

Recent rare(ish) bombers I drank by myself were: Old Rasputin XV (500 ml), Midnight Sun Berserker, and Epic Big Bad Baptist.

Too many bombers alone to count unfortunately and that is exactly why I am gravitating towards session beers with the occasional bomber now. Even if you don't count the calories polishing off 12%+ bombers can't be good for the liver.

I almost never open large format bottles by myself. They only time I'll do it is if it's something I know everyone in my group has had and it's something that I know I can drink 22-25oz of by myself. Brother Soigne, for example. I can crush that stuff

I used to drink bombers all the time when I first became of legal age, rare stuff and all. Now, I don't even consider buying a bomber of anything unless someone goes in half with me, let alone drink a bomber to myself. The last bomber I bought was Backyard Rye, and that I did split.

I enjoy sharing a bottle with a friend or 2. I'm not a fan of bottle shares where everybody gets a <3oz tick of all the rarest of rare beers.

Rarest beer I drank by myself was a King Henry, but that was closer to it's original release when it was less whale status.

I'm the most "well versed" beer geek in my circle and I'm always happy to let friends go dig through the cellar to find something for us to drink. That said, King Henry to the head was absolutely sublime
