Five years ago, I couldn't handle IPA's. I remember at a party and someone handed me a Torpedo and I thought wow, how do people drink this stuff? Way to Hoppy and a little to much for my palate. A few months later I tried a Dogfish Head 90 min. and thought ok, I get it. From then on I haven't looked back and now I can't get enough hops. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

Full Pint Chinookie. Not only was it the first IPA I can remember that really hit the spot, when I realized Full Pint was right outside of Pittsburgh it opened my eyes to how many amazing regional brewers there are that I was entirely unfamilar with.

I slowly learned to drink hoppy beers over time but it was Heady Topper that turned me into a full-blown hop head.

I hated HopDevil when I first had it - too hoppy and bitter.

I think i slowly learned to appreciate hops by way of drinking some of the SN offerings, like Torpedo, working my way into things like Pliny the Elder. It was Heady Topper that did it though.

Ruination. Yeah. That took me out of the malt frenzy that I knew as beer. The day after I drank that I started smelling hops everywhere - mainly citrus scented cleaning products and pine trees.

I'd say it was probably a Long Trail IPA that finally did it for me - mainly because none of my other college friends drank hoppy beers and that was the only thing left in the fridge. I couldn't let good beer go to waste, so I drank and enjoyed... and then drank the rest of them.

Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Wet Hop. Fresh, wet hopped IPA did it for me and IPAs have accounted for 90% of my consumption since.

Blue Point's Hoptical Illusion. First IPA I ever tried. I have since moved on from it- but I credit it for making me a hop head.

This is my story too. DFH 90 minute opened the floodgates. I had one last night for the first time in a while, and it tasted just as good.

I started off with hoppy beers and they very nearly ruined alcohol for me. I went crawling straight into malt's sweet, smooth arms and haven't looked back.

Seriously though, I get nauseous trying to handle anything too bitter. It just doesn't work for my palate. I've given quite a few IPA's a go and have never gotten a positive response to any of them. I don't enjoy the hop profiles most of them tend to use. More power to you guys.

In like 2004 a buddy worked at Harpoon and used to load us up when he came down. At one point all that was left was the IPA, forced myself to drink it and have loved IPA's since.

Bells Hopslam -- I hated IPAs. I mean, hated them. I was into belgians at the time and this one really spoke to me. It wasn't long before I embraced other DIPAs.

Little Sumpin' Sumpin' -- helped transition me from DIPAs toward IPAs.

Dogfish Head 60 Min IPA -- probably the first official single IPA I liked.

Weird to say but mine was Hopslam. It was that tasty mouthfeel that did it.

Grant's, I suppose, but that was back before there were humps to get over .

I came at it from the point of view of somebody used to drinking seriously bitter Pilsners, so IPAs were a natural progression for me once I discovered them. We could probably use some more gateway Pilsners these days...
