When do you review a beer?

Say you buy a 6 pack of a beer. At what point do you sit down and write your review? Do you want to keep your first impression and do it immediately or do you like to have a few and wait it out to see how you really feel after time? Is there a best way?

I used to immediately review after my first one but now I am finding myself sitting back and absorbing everything before putting my thoughts on paper.

Me and my buddy usually review 22oz's, so usually after 1, or if its a 12oz we usually only have a bottle or 2 if were reviewing it.

It's kinda random for me, sometimes I'll get a sixer of a new beer and take down the whole thing without even thinking about a review. Sometimes, I'll have something I've had many times and suddenly feel the need to write a review.

Not a very good answer, I know, but I suppose for me it's just kind of a random act if I'm bored. Reviewing is very low priority for me, and not something I do often.

With a 6 pack its generally the 3 or 4th rd one. Use the first two to get familiar with the beer. Use the last couple to re-evaluate what I wrote.

i prefer to review a beer rather than mark it as a had if you just check had it does nothing IMO for advocacy on this site so i say if you choose to review please write one and do so when ever you feel it is right

Not the first, but not the last; I say this for two reasons:

    1. Given the option, feel it out by having more than one. You may pick something up on the 13th oz you didn't notice before.
    2. Not the last, especially in a row  - I think I disproportionally like everything a lot more after 6 beers. Plus, I like drinking one or two for the whole beer experience without trying to tease out every nuance.

Depends on the format of beer. If it is a 6 pack, I usually have one and work my review around my second and third. I find the first beer usually helps my palate adjust and the next few are easier to dissect. I also like to drink the beer I am reviewing slower, as many beers seem to open up as they warm. If the beer is low in ABV, then 3rd or 4th is even fine. But if the beer is high ABV, I usually like to review during my second beer as I tend to exaggerate with a little inebriation.

If it is a 22oz or 750 mL, I usually have 10 oz first and the review the second glass.

I've never reviewed any beers I've had so I can't answer your question. On some beers however, I do find that I may not enjoy the first one but the more I sample a certain beer the more I seem to enjoy it. For me, it seems to help to do as much research as I can to find out what the brewer intended a particular beer to taste like. Then go from there.

I have just begun reviewing beers. I am now going back to beers I had several months ago and starting with those. With the beers I have reviewed so far, I buy a six-pack, have one, take notes, do the review, and have a few more to confirm my notes.

Second or third from a sixer, or if its a 22oz I try and get my initial impression and review as I start the second glass.

I always write my review or take my notes with the first sip of any beer. I might wait a couple of minutes and make additional notes as it warms if there's any significant change to the flavor.

I find that rating beer is very similar to music reviews for me. It usually takes a few listens (album...ALL the way through) before I have a solid opinion/review on the body of work. I probably have to get to bottle #3 in a 6-pack before I'm really ready to give it a fair review. Although, like in music, there are just some bands/singer/songwriters that pull me in right away. There are definitely beers that have hooked me very early.

I review a beer as I'm drinking it.

If I drink it again at some point, I'll go back and edit my review if I find it necessary.

    I review when:
    1. I try a new beer
    2. I'm drinking a beer I've had before but I feel like my opinion has changed from my last experience

And I do so while drinking the beer or immediately post-consumption

I like to do my review second or third if it's a six pack or a four pack. However there is a lot to be said for a first impression and lately I am thinking that I am becoming desensitized to certain flavors and aromas. If I have only one of the beer then it's decided already. I will tweak and make edits as long as I am drinking the beer but when it's done it's done. You could go nuts with an especially complex beer trying to note everything you observe.

I review the first bottle as I'm drinking it. It conditions at 33 degrees for 48 hours minimum, is removed and allowed to warm for 30 minutes at room temperature and then reviewed over the next 30 minutes or so as I drink it.

I've been finding my initial impressions of new beers are more harsh than when I revisit a beer.

EDIT: For example, I didn't enjoy Hop Ranch until beer #4-5. Now I love it. I didn't love Hop JuJu on beer #1 either but by beer #3, it was fantastic. Now I am not talking about 1 sitting either. 5 Hop Ranch's would have me in really good shape even at my size.

I only review a beer if it doesn't have many reviews yet and I think it is something that should be done. Usually it is later that night or the next day.t
