My favorites are BCBCS, Blacknote, Black Tuesday and anything Bourbon Barrel from Lost Abbey/Port (Angel's Share, Older Viscosity, Deliverance, etc).

For something a bit easier to get (at least here) try Bourbon Barrel Boris. Solid.

Parabola is one of my favorite Ba stouts. The bourbon isn't overwhelming and is very smooth for a 13-14% brew. Some BA stouts are way too sweet from the bourbon but parabola is solid! If firestone walker distros to you i'd recommend picking some of that up! Plus a new batch is coming oit next week!

Pretty much all the good ones have been listed. Did anyone say Port Santa's Little Helper?

Very intrigued by this. Anyone else try this? I don't want to waste a "precious" bottle of this and not like it.

any of the firestone walker reserve series are fantastic. Sucaba, Parabola, Double DBA, Velvet Merkin, PNC

    Bourbon County - any variant

I like the 50/50 beers, although they are overpriced

Most bourbon barrel aged beers are good, and most will have a hefty price tag. Gotta pay to play

There's actually other factors to consider. Such as, do you want to drink it now or let the flavors marry in the bottle? Right now, Bourbon Barrelled Plead the 5th is almost perfect right out of the bottle. Parabola, BA Blackout, KBS, Silva, and definitely Uncle Jacobs need time in the bottle ( a year or so aid tremendously ). I'm not a big fan of booziness, so I prefer the more mellow favors that aging assisit with.

Add all the Bourbon County bottles to the list that aging improves. A BCBS with at least a year is near perfection for the style.

Velvet Merkin! some have complained it is not as thick as Parabola but i think this makes it better if anything! More delicate, creamy, vanilla-y, and bourbon-y! Awesome stuff!

I put the 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract first in the glass THEN pour the BCS in the glass. After the success of this, I am going to try some other extracts. BCS is amazing by itself but this this was just a little change.

BCBS always get a vote from me (although you can't go wrong with almost any of the variants, if you can find them). I agree with FW's BBA program, as well; haven't had Parabola, but Velvet Merkin and Sucaba are fantastic. Central Waters is good too, if you want something that isn't quite as thick.

I would start with BCBS since you may still be able to get some (and everyone should try the granddaddy of bba beers), and after that see what you can find. Central Waters may be pretty easy for you to obtain, and Parabola from FW should be coming in the next few weeks.

That Anderson Valley lacks body. It is it's major downfall.

Do you get Boulevard in New Mexico? Their Bourbon Barrel Quad will be released again towards the end of the year. A very nice aged beer that is not a stout and they have been making enough to go around. Goes for $12 for 750ml in KC area. I will also jump on the Backwoods Bastard train. Awesome beer, and when in season is usually on the shelf for a little while around KC.

Hard to find, but anything Perennial puts in a barrel is worth it. BCBS is probably king, but there is no more of that around.

I feel like I am in the minority here, but I enjoy Firestone's regular beers better than there special releases (for the most part). Parabola and Velvet Merkin did not leave lasting impressions on me.

A bit off path, but Mikkeller's Santa's Little helper that was put in the cognac barrel blew my mind.

The best I've had recently was the BCS Proprietors, it was phenomenal.

I believe BCBS to be the BA Stout we hold as the measuring stick, at least I do. BA Plead the Fifth is a great brew, but hard for me to get anyways, everything Central Waters makes is first rate. Parabola is fairly easy to get, and being from NC surprisingly I still see some Event Horizion lying around, and it's 1st rate stuff as well especially for a sub 10% abv stout. I've had aged versions, but typically I like them fresh and hot too.

I too am obsessed with barrel aged beers. I'll recommend some of my favorites, in no particular order.

    1. Firestone Parabola (hitting the market again, very soon. Watch for it).
    2. Bourbon County Stout. (Gold standard. Incredibly tasty beer).
    3. Port Brewing Older Viscosity.
    4. Avery Uncle Jacobs Stout.
    5. Firestone Sucaba Barley Wine (Available now).
    6. Fremont Bourbon Abominable (the beer that started the obsession with me).

And many, many more... My advice, try barrel aged beers over 10% ABV. They usually have the most significant barrel character, plus they age well (years).

I don't know if Thristy Dog is in NM but if they do you want to try Wulver. I like it better than Backwoods.

Seconding (or seventhing or whatever) Central Waters.

Had it on draft in Chicago not too long ago - so tasty.
