Now on tap! The latest West Coast IPA from the masters at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing, in collaboration with Kelsey McNair of the upcoming North Park Beer Co. This is Kelsey's recipe, which has won TWICE at the National Homebrew Competition in an ultra-competitive field of several hundred entries each time. Nearly unfathomable.

For anyone that has had the pleasure of trying the first "pro-brewed" batch of it... Well? How is it?

I gotta get down there ASAP for a few pints (and a growler, if they're filling 'em)!

Well, I was fortunate enough to have one of my buddies passing by the area yesterday en route to another buddy's birthday party, and so I tried a growler of Hop-Fu! last night. Amazing stuff. There may be some recency bias here, but I don't think it's far off to say that this may be the best IPA they have made at Beachwood to-date. It's certainly up there. Super-drinkable with the perfect body and mouthfeel, and an incredible aroma and flavor. Obviously, it's also super-fresh right now, so it can't get much better than it is in its current condition. But I'd say in every respect, this beer delivered on the promise, hope, and hype of its own growing legacy. Can't wait for North Park Beer Company, and now I'm just cursing myself that I didn't ask my buddy for an extra growler for myself. Gotta figure out if I can get down to Beachwood some time this week....

Kegs of this will be showing up in San Diego very soon, Toronado will be one of the places getting them. Can't wait to try a large scale batch!

Thanks for the incredibly kind words Chris! I have wanted to share this IPA with the craft beer community for a very long time and I am stoked that you thoroughly enjoyed it.

I had zero doubts that my recipe would translate flawlessly in Julian's very capable hands. Based on your review, it must have done exactly that. Julian is one of the only brewers that I would ever trust to brew a commercial batch of Hop-Fu! and I am still in awe of the fact that he gave me the privilege to come up and brew it.

I haven't tasted this batch yet, so I'll be getting my first taste at Toronado San Diego when it gets tapped on Wednesday at 6:30pm. Other Hop-Fu! kegs will be tapped at Hamilton's Tavern, Tiger!Tiger! Tavern and Blind Lady Ale House over the course of the next 2 weeks.

After this batch has run dry, the next time you see Hop-Fu! will be from NPBC in the [hopefully] not so distant future!

Agreed. I'm nearly finished with my growler, and the beer is flawless. Well done, guys.

I wish I'd gotten an extra growler to age.

I picked up a growler last night and am currently sipping on its deliciousness. Best IPA on the board last night.

I went to Beachwood on Saturday with the hopes that my new favorite IPA, Amalgamator, would be on draft or maybe bottles. My mistake, long gone. I opted for the Hop Fu since I hadnt heard of it and am always excited to try a new IPA from Beachwood. The beer was fantastic. Definite hop mastery. Lets just say I walked home with 64 more ounces of it.

Nobody should have to consume that much delicious beer by themselves. It's my noble duty to help you with that.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just thought Hop Fu was okay. I was there when they put it on, grabbed a pint and thought it was good. I wasn't blown away by it, nor did I think it was bad. I just thought it was okay

That's the wonderful thing about beer -- everyone has their own tastes and preferences. Thanks for giving Hop-Fu! a try.

I'm with you there. It was decent. It's Beachwood though. Hop-Fu! could be the flagship IPA at a lot of brewpubs, but it's probably like their 12th best IPA.

I have lost track of that awesome list someone started on which brewery will fill what kinds of growlers; any chance Beachwood will fill a non-Beachwood growler? I might be there in 2 weeks (having lunch with my Dad in Seal Beach in 2 weeks).

I heard that Bottle Logic will fill other growlers. Any truth to this and if so any restrictions?
Finally made it over to the brewery yesterday for Hop Fu. Another fantastic beer from Julian. Still doing growler fills of Fu. XFactor#3 is better than the 1st 2. Also, finally opened my growler of Hops of Fury (filled Super Bowl Sunday) and it's still fresh and tasting great. Sure would like to see another Mind Melder. . . . . . .

SageO, great job on the Growler fill list.

Does Beachwood have a counter pressure filler?
