Have tried all of the serious contenders mentioned so far except Alpha Fornication, and the winner is fresh Hopsickle. You might try chewing on Warrior or CTZ hop cones while drinking a pale ale to get a similar experience.

I agree with what you say. The question in the title was about IBUs. When the hops are added has an influence on the ISO-AA and how much of the essential oils go up the stack or remain in the beer.

The used to claim >240 or so for Devil Dancer. They must have had it measured. 112 now.

Greenbush is new, and was not the size to afford a lab when I went there just after they opened. You might ask if they have sent it out for measurement. That would be a theoretical number out of a program.

Which is a big reason why they're not listed on BA...well, that and because not many brewers put that info on their bottles/cans or websites...which is probably because of the whole estimate-and-paints-an-incomplete-picture things. IT'S A VISCOUS CYCLE!

IBU's and perceived bitterness are two completely different things, I generally ignore IBU's don't really care to be honest. Some DIPA's boast high IBU's, but they are sweetish on the palate, so IBU's are out the window.

Thank you! IBU's are a totally overrated benchmark of bitterness.

Agreed. There are many things that influence perceived bitterness.

On of the most bitter beers I have had is Zum Uerige Altbier at the brewery. Only in the 45 IBU range (+/-), but it is in a low gravity highly attenuated beer.

Anyone know what Heady Topper is listed as? It makes my tongue tingle so I assume it is pretty high.

I don't find DIPA's generally to be in that hugely bitter category, of course there are exceptions like Hopsickle, and Mongo. I find a lot of simple clean IPA's to be far more bitter. Great DIPA's like HT and PTE are just amazingly balanced.

I can't give you numbers, but Moylan's Hopsickle was the most bitter DIPA that I ever sampled.

Currently drinking the Hop Craic by Moylans (they liken it to hop sickle on steroids) and it might be the most pleasing high-abv DIPA/TIPA I have ever tried. Bitter as fawk too easily well over a hundred IBUs

Most bitter tasting that I've had: Green Flash Palate Wrecker, Founder's Devil Dancer, Bell's The Oracle, Surly Furious. Hopslam isn't as bitter as The Oracle despite the name, and most of the "high IBU" beers I've had other than these don't quite rise to this level -- Stone Ruination, Tallgrass Ethos, Sixpoint Resin, ... . Most of the time I prefer balance, but a super-dank brew that paints my tongue with bitter goodness: there's a place for that in my beer fridge.

I'm currently drinking a Half Cycle IPA from Flat12 Bierwerks from Indianapolis. It has a stated 104.1 IBUs, but it's not that bitter. It's only 6% ABV though. Honestly it has a very similar taste to Hopslam, sorta like a Hopslam Lite? This beer is quickly getting into my rotation. Very delicious, would be open to a trade if you can't get it your area, which they are only local in Indiana.
