Well folks, it finally happened. Got our hands on our first Pliny the Younger ever, thanks to @PhillyTapFinder for the lead to keep an eye on Tria's tweets. The place announced the tapping 10 minutes before actually tapping the sixtel at 12PM. $12/6oz with $6 going to charity and limit 1 per person. Translation: NO shit show!!! What a great way to do PtY tapping. I took off work a little early, arrived at 3:30PM with family and there was still 60% left according the BevChek.

It's a great, great beer! However, I failed to see the why if you had it before you'd want to line up for hours to get it again. It's like a Hopslam without the honey sweetness...and reminded me majorly of Stone RuinTEN! PtE is better if I had to pick between the 2. Still, I'm thankful for a place like Tria and thankful for Russian River being available in Philly so I get to get this curiosity out of my system. In all fairness, my wife who's a huge Heady fan loved if more than Heady...well, she also likes PtE more than Heady. The boy on the other hand was unimpressed :grinning:

Well, I'm an early morning coffee person, and this is pairing well with my oatmeal....

Nice! Glad to know it at least makes it into PA somewhere. I'm happy you got to try it. Since reading your post I've googled Tria's and now have an additional stop when I'm in the Philly area. Cheers!

Definitely a place to visit! 28 draft lines. The tablet in the photo is actually their beer menu, which is essentially their website which has BevChek technology, giving you real-time info on how much beer if left in their "tank". Example: http://tria.bevchek.com/item?eCCvO0FbtJAS+LIZjQp+9Q .

I just followed your link - bevchek is really impressive! Oh well, maybe someday the technology will make it out to the hinterlands.

Sticking with my can theme this week but going darker today.

Tasty blend of roast and citric/spicy hops, as a Black Ale should be.

I was inspired by the name, style & packaging of the beer and went with some classic British black metal:

It's spot on as far as I know. I was clicking away on PtY yesterday and saw it all the way to 5%, then soon after got a tweet from them saying it kicked. Tria is the only bar in Philly with this system.

If BCBS is somehow better than this my head may explode upon the first sip.

Well tipsy tuesday was a washout for me and I only had one beer. SO - today we try again! I am cooking a nice shrimp risotto with roasted asparagus. Plating is the goal here and wish me luck because this time my friend the chef did not tell me how to do it. First up - Harp Lager. I like it. Before craft this was a "fancy" beer. I remember it from long ago and it also makes the classic black and tan with guinness. Cheers and bring on Vulcan.

Found this Bigfoot along with another half foot of snow in the woods. Paying the rent for that 50 degree day yesterday and Monday. Cheers to better weather somewhere!

Great fact about beer #3,452 (estimated): even if you're done drinking coffee, you don't have to stop drinking coffee.

Morning all. Kids meant yet another day off from work, which is starting to drive me a little mad. It's not like they can't handle things without me; it's just frustrating that I haven't been in all week, and I know there are things I could do.

Then again, it does afford me yet another liquid lunch (maybe even with food this time, although I haven't gotten around to that yet), so it's not all bad, eh? :sunglasses:

This morning's libation is Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, and I was absolutely blown away by it.

Incredible rolling and thick head; it took me three pours to fill up my MBC pint glass (my preferred vessel for stouts, generally).

I liked it significantly more than the Beer Geek Breakfast. It's complex, featuring a ton of flavors you'd expect in a stout, but just highlighted in different ways. Just very interesting, and very tasty. You could definitely make a dessert out of this.

Cheers, BAs; here's to lifting a glass to help power you through Wednesday!

Harp is a perfectly drinkable mass lager; before the base pub expanded their tap lineup (we get Limbo now!!!), Harp was probably the best offering (depending on the Sam seasonal). Cheers to you on your continuing quest to try the mass lagers!

Cheers; that sounds phenomenal. As someone who's never tried PtY, I think it would be worth to to make an event, especially if you live in or near Philly (or anywhere else RR distributes it). Looks like a great time, and that BevCheck app is amazing!
