Using this for the first time this week. Loving it so far, my two step starter was a breeze with the built in calculator.

One other thing that would be great and I think would likely be a quick fix: would it be possible to add a second row for yeast/yeast data on the recipe tab? I frequently do split batches with the difference being the yeast in each half, so it'd be helpful to be able to add that directly there.

    Cheers!

Hmmm. I'll have to think about that one some more. If there's a way to do it without making the interface more difficult/confusing for users who don't split batches, I'll add it.

Here's what's coming in the next version...
    - Repitched Yeast Slurry calculations
    - Added column Displaying grain Percentages (of total grist)
    - Freeform NotePad page
    - Generic Example Water Profiles
    - Sparge Water Acidification (maybe)

If Sparge water acidification isn't ready by the end of the month, I'll put up the new version without it and defer it to the next one.

re: Sparge water acidification. I'm still working on the paper, but I have all the equations nailed down, so I can go ahead and update MpH Calculator, and so it can be incorporated into BrewCipher. Within a week, perhaps (fingers crossed). Cheers.

    Were I not brewing today...

Can't figure out how to download this bad boy. When I click on it 21 pages of nothingness pops up.

After you click on it (which opens it in a display only mode because it's in excel format and not google docs format), there should be a download arrow in the lower right corner of the window. If not, there must be a browser/firewall/google docs incompatibility. If you can't resolve it, BM me an email address and I can send it.

MpH Water Calculator is updated; it now includes sparge-water acidification calculations. A companion paper is in the works, but is not quite finished. Enjoy!

Article on sparge water acidification is done. It can be found here.

Looking forward to reading this weekend. For anyone who hasn't read utah's first two papers (on mash pH), they are very well organized and a great read. I'm guessing this one will be as well.

Can vouch for this being a great read. Thanks to utahbeerdude for sharing.

Wonder if there is a setting for a no-sparge system?

It's not a setting per se, but BrewCipher does give you the water volumes and temps for both sparge and no-sparge (mashout).

Or, if you don't do a mashout (i.e. all of your water goes into the first infusion), you can enter a water to grain ratio that results in 0 sparge/mashout water. If there's enough demand for it, I could add a macro to compute this ratio when a button is pressed. But in the meantime, it'll take all of 15 seeconds to find the ratio that gives 0 mashout/sparge water.

I stayed away from it for the longest time because I had already invested in BeerSmith. Oh, how ignorant I was. Totally worth the small financial loss.

it IS awesome. I design all my recipes on brewersfriend.com then I enter it all into brewcipher and go from there.. its nice.

Understood, it would make things much easier for those who BIAB(unless i'm missing something). Estimating my water; including mash PH, salts, ect is my main issue with having no sparge water.

Thanks for the quick response and all of the time you put into this program. Big Fan!

    Cheers!

I'll work something out for a future release. My not be the next one (in a week or so), but if not, the one after that. Here's what coming in the next one...
    - Metric option
    - Plato gravity option
    - minor tweaks

I was later than usual to work today because I was poking around, having a look. I haven't really played with the spreadsheet yet but was immediately appreciative of the work that has gone into it. I had the urge to pull recipes from Beersmith and start loading them into Brewcipher to make comparisons, but I did the responsible thing, shut the computer down, and headed into the office/lab.

It would be nice if the "printable" sheet, would be to include specific brewing salts/ acid additions. Today I printed the sheet to brew, but had to go back inside to refer the the brewing salt additions. Not a huge deal, but it would be a convenience.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't quite understand the mash efficiency predictor, in regards to changing no-sparge to sparge, and sparge to no-sparge. I don't quite understand how the efficiency changes.

    This program is amazing BTW.
