Hey all - my apologies if this post is against protocol and/or BA etiquette. I'm looking for advice/help in tracking down a bottle of Kate. The reason I ask - I'm planning to propose to my lovely girlfriend of 3+ years. Her name is Kate. When we first started dating 3 years ago, our first date was at DC's Churchkey, and beer has been a big part of our relationship since. We often discussed planning a roadtrip up to Portsmouth to attend Kate Day - and had been planning to follow through in 2013. Then, the news broke that Kate would no longer be produced, etc. So, to date, while we have enjoyed many great beer adventures together, Kate the Great has eluded us. So, I'm hoping to track this beer down, and use it as part of my proposal as a symbol of our relationship, our spirit of exploration and our future together. If the BA community can help guide me in any way, I would be extremely grateful. Cheers! Brett
Cool idea. If I had a bottle, I'd send it to you free of charge. Best of luck finding one! I'm sure your girlfriend will really appreciate it.
Not an easy one to find. * dot com has some listed but you are going to pay hardily from there. But such a special occasion, it may be worth it. Think I spent as much as they are asking on flowers for that day. Wish my wife liked beer...
You can search Gots on the beer's profile page to see who has it. You can also post an ISO FT and see if you get any bites. It took me 3 years to get the bottle I did. Good luck!
Good luck OP! If I were you...try to score two, one for you and one for her. Trust me, I've been in the same position as I traded for one for my girlfriend's last bday (named Kayti). You'll want one for yourself to celebrate!!
Not to be judgmental, but your story seems like the stereotypical story of people looking for beer, and the replies seems like the ones that some one trying to take advantage of people would want to see.
There are definitely bottles floating around in cellars. Put your best foot, (er, bottles) forward in the ISO/FT forum. Personally, I don't think this beer ages well - I've always preferred it fresh. Plus, the scuttlebutt is that Tod Mott will be brewing KTG under a new name when his new endeavor opens up (late spring?) and it is rumored that it will be made more readily available. I believe there was some mention of this in the NE forum at one point. Best of luck tracking down a bottle. Cheers.
One thing to consider for you - and someone correct me if I am wrong - if it matters to you that the bottle actually says 'Kate' on it, the only year that does that is the 2012 when they were 12 oz. bottles. The 22 oz. bottles of 2011 and prior do not actually say 'Kate' on the bottle - just 'Imperial Stout'.
Portsmouth BC owns the name Kate the Great but Tod is going to be brewing soon. https://www.facebook.com/tributarybrewingcompany Same great beer, different name for sure.
