Is it an aggressive pour to produce a large head? Do you prefer a two finger or one finger head with a less aggressive pour? Or are you like me, a careful pour that produces no head, or the smallest possible head? I want the most beer for my buck instead of half the beer being foam. Maybe the pour is beer specific? What do BA's do?

I start pouring without tilting the glass, and if it looks like I'm gonna get a lot of head that way I'll switch to tilt.

Obviously depends on the beer style, but for an IPA or golden I usually shoot for about 1" of head, whereas a stout I'll shoot for 1/2" or less. But it's really up to the beer itself in the end, how much head it wants to have.

The amazing thing about great beer is the head itself is often really tasty.

I tend to go for lower than average head, but still try to get a little to make sure them aroma come through fully. I do wait for most of the head to die before I do the main part of my drinking though. To each their own.

I like a one to two finger head. First half of pour at 45 degree angle and then slowly moving to a 90 degree pour. Works every time.

You are not losing any beer when you use a vigorous pour. One to two inches of head give a release of the aromatics and enhance what you smell thereby improving the flavor of the beer.

Same here- works almost every time for me. Sometimes you just get a live one that'll do what it wants to do.

I don't like a lot of carbonation so I tend to pour somewhat aggressively. Depends on the beer, though. IPA's I like with a little carbonation and about a 2" head so I pour those a little more carefully. I tend to pour stouts more aggressively, I like stouts smooth.

I pour aggressively, stop, pour, etc.

I like releasing the carbonation; easier-drinking and I don't have to burp after every large gulp.

The cicerone Training Manuel specifies to pour at a 45' angle and straighten the glass halfway through the pour and you should get 3/4-1inch of head

I like a nice 2/2-3 finger head - if i'm pouring from my own bottle.

My habit is a gentle side pour, but will on occasion do an aggressive center pour with a well-known beer. A head is decoration, icing on the cake. Beer is meant to be enjoyed, cheers. ^^/

It depends on the style, and then for the most part the glassware I am using which is dependant on style.

For the most part, I pour the beers all the same way, how they react to my pleasure is all different.

I used to use this method, and it does work great, but I found that normally it doesn't produce a lasting or ample enough head for me.
These days I like to pour straight down the middle in a fairly slow and controlled manner. It's not as fool-proof a method as the 45 to 90 pour, but with some practice you can learn the carbonation level of your favorite brews and adjust accordingly.
Realistically, I doubt there is a "perfect" method. The correct method is the one that works best for you.

I try and pour without and head. From my experiences, when I rigorously pour I lose some of the carbonation which I don't like.

As far as the aromatics are concerned, some of the glasses I use (Chimay chalace, SA Perfect Pint) have little patterns etched into the bottom on the class which release a stream of bubbles straight to the top.

Tilt for about half the bottle, and then turn the glass upright and pour aggressively in the middle of the glass.
