Or something similar to a stout in wine barrels? Really like this style, but can't remember any that completely blew my mind, mostly because I can't remember having this style from any world class breweries, really good breweries, but not great ones. Sorry if this has been posted before, couldn't find anything when I searched.

I had Goose Island Napa County Stout. It was almost entirely flat, but it remains my favorite beer that I've ever tried. Huge in chocolate, vinous character, leather, roastiness, and everything that's great about BCBS but with wine instead of bourbon. It was absolutely phenomenal.

Ever since that fateful day, I've been trying to get my hands on other great wine barrel-aged stouts, and it has become my favorite sub-sub-style. Highly regarded ones are Prairie Wine Noir, Westbrook Wine Mexican Cake, Bruery Wineification, Port Damon, Port Dark Lord, Moscatel Dark Lord, Mikkeller Wine Barrel Black Hole, and Midnight Sun Berserker, just to name a few off the top of my head. It's not that huge of a thing yet, but I have high hopes that it will become more popular (and more available).

haven't had the privilege of trying it, but people seem to be going bonkers over RW Mexican Cake

Holy shit, I forgot one of the most famous: Kate the Great, which is aged in port barrels, at least partially. Too bad it's almost impossible to come by, at least until/if Tod Mott gets brewing again, and even then the hype will be outrageous.

    The Abyss???

Though this is part bourbon aged I fell this counts. Tasting the abyss its clear its aged in wine and it gives it a much different effect than a full bourbon barrel stout.

Anchorage Darkest Hour. It's only partially aged in wine barrels, but that makes no difference because it's oh so good.

Victory Red Thunder is a porter aged in wine barrels. It's quite nice, especially for the price, but it's not quite as good as the others on this list.

Yup. Have had Red Thunder a couple of times and quite like it. As you've said, it might not be as good as some of the others here, but the odds of stumbling across a Dark Lord or Mexican Cake are impossibly small. You can practically pick up Red Thunder at a gas station.

Oh yeah, it's availability definitely makes up for a small hit in awesome. It's a very, very solid brew and a great example of a wine barrel-aged beer that isn't a sour. Very affordable as well.

Everything made by 3F is way overpriced, I make it a point not to buy anything from them. You can buy actual wine that blows all of their beer out of the water for the same price. It's not like they make something truly unique, like the Belgian breweries to justify the price, and they charge more than the Belgians too!!!!!!!

While technically not a stout, I really like CCB illuminating the Path. Has many similar characteristics to a stout aged in Pinot noir.

$10 for a six-pack of Zombie Dust is overpriced? Interesting.

The already mentioned Red Tunder is not from a really good brewery, but rather, a great one.

Black Xantus is really good - it has a nice subtle vinous quality that works well with the coffee. If it had a Firestone Walker label I bet it would be more hyped. It isn't 100% wine barrel aged, however.
