Now Zimbo, your comment is based on Scottish Guinness, which isn't really fair. You know the Guinness in Ireland tastes better.

"Most people" would also say that those who don't like Budweiser are the uncool ones. One of the main reasons we joined BA is that we don't identify with what most people think about beer.

When I lived in Dublin I used to drink Guinness the majority of the time, back then the only alternatives were Smithwicks, Lagers (which I wasn't a fan of) and some continental European bereer like Budvar or Erdinger.
The thing that I can't get over about Guinness in Dublin is the price in many places. In Templebar (I know this is an extreme example) you could easily pay around 6 EUR a pint, when I think that I got Pliny the Elder for $5 in a bar in San Francisco it really makes me wonder why people pay through the nose for something that is brewed down the road.

well, to be fair, is Scottish Guinness on nitro? because then it's really uncool. but if you remember the Scottish Guinness on Cask, the way it was meant to be, then you are Supercool.

    Cheers.

    edit.
    oh yeah

Many countries and peoples adopt items from abroad so much that they get associated. The Scots with Haggis, the US with baseball and burgers and Ireland with Stout. All originally imports but taken to their hearts. What can be more English than a cup of tea?

To the point about "Foster's: Australian for Beer"

I have a "penpal" in Australia and she says they don't even drink Foster's. They have it obviously, but it's not even popular over there.

Now let's not start on this "baseball is English" stuff again. We've been through that thoroughly.
I'll give you a pass on it for now.

And didn't the English steal tea-drinking from the Chinese? :grinning: Just funning about!

Yes that is the main reason I switched to Murphy's for my Dry Irish Stout fix.

True on all counts. I certainly don't choose beer based on what other people think about me. Just throwing some objectivity into the mix.

Like or dislike, why does anyone care where a beer is from?

I'm off to score me some Irish craft beer. Exciting beer things are happening in the Emerald island these days. Then it'll be a few glasses of my old pal The Green Spot.

Try to tell someone over in Ireland that Guinness isn't Irish and you'll be corrected soon after.
