Crushing a 2L solo right now. I'm not going to disagree with you.

Abrasive is damn good, I'll give you that. I still would rank it below the other 3 listed, but not by a huge margin for sure.

I'd say DS, HT, Abner. All very close though.

And I agree that Heady definitely stands the test of time the best out of the three.

Actually I have to disagree. I recently went to Monk's Cafe in Philadelphia for the first time, and was able to enjoy Blind Pig and PtE back to back. I foolishly had the PtE first, but I guess I wanted a fresh palate. Anyway, after having Pliny, which was amazing, I thought Blind Pig was maybe the best tasting IPA I've ever had. I thought Pliny was a better crafted beer, if you take my meaning (better nose, better mouthfeel, unbelievably clean-finish), but Blind Pig might have tasted just a bit better, and this was having them back to back.

Re: the OP's original debate - never had DS, but I've had Heady (for me 3rd behind PtE and Enjoy By, or maybe 4th behind Sucks), and I'm cracking open my fresh Abner tonight(!). I'll chime in then.

I had a similar experience at Russian River. PtE was good but i enjoyed Blind Pig more. Definitely not close to the best I have ever had though.

Thats how i feel about Double Galaxy. I did Heady, Double Galaxy & Pliny about a month ago and Galaxy came out on top by far. Still love me some Heady, but i could drink Galaxy all day errday. havent had abner or DS yet

I wasn't very impressed with Double Sunshine, but have only had it twice. Heady is the better beer, IMO. Have not had Abner.

Love Heady. Loved Abner even more. Would love to try Double Sunshine and I have a Kern Citra coming next week. Sosus from TG was great also and certainly one to seek out!

well one thing you can try is to smell each one first (if that's important to you) before you dive in on your palate.

I am sure it will be years before I get a bottle of Double Sunshine in my life... if ever...

A few weeks ago I was in Waterbury and had Heady (draft) followed by Double Sunshine (draft) and both blew me away, but I thought DS was more my personal style, love the huge citrus.

Lawson's is the finest beer (pardon the pun) I've had so far. Love The Heady Topper and the Edward and James from HF were very good, but Lawson's is a cut above. Heading up to HF in a couple weeks and will be glad to try more from them.

I like to break up the taste bud hop shock with a nice imperial stout. Totally opens the buds up for the next wonderful hop shock. I've even done the in between with some of my homemade Syrah. Both techniques work quite well IMHO. Try it.

I have been waiting 3 years to try Heady and Double Sunshine. Last week I got 2 4 packs and 1 Bottle all super fresh. Blown away by the double sunshine an absolutely perfect example of a craft beer. The complexity of flavors (citrus malt and hops) are so well balanced and in harmony. Reminds me of a perfect meal at Babbo (Mario Batale). None of this BS about how the flavor hides the ABV either. You get a warm blast 8.0 at the tail end.. Loved it.
Heady is a different story. First can I cracked and poured. First thing I thought when I smelled and tasted was West coast and so what. Reminded me of Double Jack a nice beer. Next one I read the can instructions and followed by drinking straight from it. Well I am a Hophead but this stuff is way too one dimensional for me. I put Heady well behind Gandhi,Abrasive, 3Floyd's,Mercenary,Pliny, Hopslam.
Sorry and I understand if you want to ban me from the site.
Also. I have 6 cans if anyone wants them.

Ha! I was there a few weeks ago as well,(crusher/beelzebub) and out off all the glorius brews on tap,Double Sunshine reigned supreme.

    Cheers

Double Sunshine isn't even my favorite DIPA from Lawson's, not even mentioning these three. Stop believing the hype and the ratings and kissing specific breweries' asses and start trusting your tastebuds. There are many DIPAs from Vermont worthy of being grouped with these three.

That they aren't the best hoppy beers in the world. Kern Citra. King Sue. And I'm going to put Dinner up there as well.

    For me...
    1. DS
    2. Abner
    3. Heady

If I could include Citra (not double citra since I've never had it) I would put it 2nd after DS. I love that beer.
