i think we're at least a week out before seeing distribution, but it can't hurt to start the thread now in preparation. happy hunting!

Ha. April 1st is the date they are distributing correct. Wonder if that means in stores on the 1st or day or two after. I've never had it so hoping just to snag a bottle. Anyone know if any stores do a wait list? Haskells downtown does for a few releases.

I think Founders typically tries to time their releases so the beer is at all stores on the announced release day. I.E., the stores get their deliveries prior to the release date and are instructed not to sell it until "the day". Could be wrong but that's my perception of it.

The most overrated beer in the top 100, IMO
It's good fresh, but nowhere near as good as all the hype it gets.
The only reason it's rated so high it's because it was a pioneer of the style and has all those grandfathered ratings.
I still found 30 last year without even chasing.
    Great trade bait...lol

I doubt they have any left. It was a one bottle limit and when I was there luckily 30 mins after it was posted on twitter, it was almost gone and two people grabbed it be hind me and one person asked me if any was left on the way out.

It does sound like more stores are getting it today though.

Do tell where exactly you found 30 bottles last year as I didn't chase either, but didn't see a single bottle anywhere for the last two years.

I did my best and only came up with 4 last year. If you don't like them I'll take those overrated beers off your hands!

Least overrated beer IMO. I would mainline KBS. Actually, scratch that. i wouldnt be able to taste it.

I agree though, as with all coffee beer, drink it fresh. I had a 2009 KBS a while ago and it wasnt nearly as good as fresh.

How does it compare to Lift Bridge BA Bourbon Stout?

I have not had the 2014 that just showed up, but based on prior years I think Black Note and LB BA Silhouette fall close to each other on the BA stout spectrum. Both represent the "strong center" of the style nicely, with barrel notes that compliment but do not dominate the base beer, and only moderate heat. I think both tend to lean more towards sweet chocolate and vanilla than heavy roast or oak (with BA Silhouette having the slightly stronger roast presence for my palate).

While I am on record as saying BA Silhouette is probably my favorite bottled BA stout made in Minnesota, I think I have to give the edge to Black Note due to a slightly better integration of flavors.

    Both are delicious.

(Also, I apologize for veering this KBS thread further off course. We should probably just set up a BN thread in the Midwest forum.)

I would take Lift Bridge BA Silhouette over Black Note, but it's damn close.

Edit: And over KBS for that matter.

I didn't care for Black Note fresh but it's damn tasty with a year or two. BA Silhouette is about even, maybe a bit better. KBS is good but not worth of truck chasing. Now, Alewerks BA Porter, that's the stuff.

I wonder if this will be harder or the safe difficult as Black Note.
