I have some mold on my corks and am trying to figure out why and what to do. Here's the story:

I bought a True Brand refrigerator about 6 months ago to store all of my beer. I kept a container of Damp Rid inside. I moved last month and the Damp Rid was used up so I threw it away. I unplugged my fridge, waited a few days (hoping to avoid major condensation) and then transported all the beer and the fridge to the new house. About a week later I plugged it back in and put the beer inside. That was a few weeks ago, now I have started to notice mold on the corks of some of my beer. Is this going to have an affect on the beer? Should I take the bottles out and clean them?

I did not notice this problem before the move so I'm guessing the problem is that I no longer have any DampRid in there absorbing moisture. I plan to get another one in there ASAP.

Personally, I'd just wipe it off with some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel. Whether that's the best way to take care of it or not idk.

Posted about this a while back and here's people's responses: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/mold-in-my-beer-fridge.140142/

I ended up going with the Eva-dry Renewable EDV-300/E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidifer that someone suggested and it's been working absolutely great. As for cleaning the bottles at this point, I'd recommend antibacterial wipes.

It's a damn frustrating problem, so I can commiserate, but I'm happy to report that there's a cheap and easy solution!

Thanks for the suggestion, that is a much better solution than constantly replacing damprid containers. I ordered one! Thanks!

This is great information. I'm not having any mold issues, but better safe than sorry. I'm going to pick up the Eva-Dry. Thanks!
