My statement wasn't meant to be directed at a person, just my general experience with tastings. I definetely tend to seem a bit negative so I won't diatribe anymore.
Just seemed like a possible solution to potential bottle share problems is rallying people to draft beer around town. Loads of good stuff showing up in good quantities all over, and it seems like not that many people know about it other than those that can carefully sift through their social media information. My best conversations with other beer geeks are had at your Salud, Good Bottle, one of the breweries, etc.

In my experience, I've never felt awkward at bottle shares no matter what I bring (or don't bring). When Salud used to have them more frequently, I'd often not realize I was going to one but everyone was always so friendly and offered me a taste of whatever they were sharing anyway.

On that note, I don't think I've ever brought a "whale" to a bottle share, but I definitely try to bring something uncommon that either isn't found locally or was limited and not everyone could get. That's the point of shares... Give everyone a chance to try something they wouldn't otherwise have. It's not a competition, it's sharing.

Jamie and myself both work at Salud. It has become quit regular for people to bring things in and share but it is very unorganized, some what intentionally. The point is to let people try things they might not have the chance to otherwise and keeping it random creates excitement and hopefully keeps people coming back. I almost always have at least a bottle with me to share every time I stop in, which is at least 3 times a week.

Of course there are also more organized and planned events or shares that usually take place in other BA's houses. Just getting to know some of us that trade and share regularly should lead to invites to these things. They have become few and far between lately but we are a very generous and friendly group.

Please stop in and say hello, either way I'm sure you will bump into plenty beer folk around town including myself. I frequent a lot of local breweries and other shops.

    Cheers,
    Garret C.

Salud sounds solid! I look forward to meeting you Garret and Jamie! I like dropping by to open bottles with people randomly as well as a nice scheduled share .

Common Market Plaza Midwood looks good too!

My fiance and I are beyond excited. We'll be coming fully stocked on "sours".

    A note about shares:
I don't expect anyone to break out any "bombs" though I might break out a couple BOMB!'s haha. Beer is meant to be shared in my eyes. I don't want to drink my bottles alone. I look forward to sharing a pint with all of you (at least haha). Honestly, if someone brought a growler fill from Ass Clown to any tasting I'd be thrilled. Matt is doing good work out there.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Tom at Common Market Plaza is the man! He's one of the godfathers of Charlotte craft beer and that CM in particular has a great draft selection and even better prices. They do most if not everything there for 3$ on Wednesdays, last week they had BCBS on draft for $4.50

Mike at Brawley's is the only person that I know of that has been at it longer than Tom. Currently you can't drink at Brawleys but they are working on fixing that. Make sure to give him and Shane a visit and tell em Garret sent ya.

Can't wait to meet you guys. If Jamie or myself aren't working when you make it by the shop Jason the owner should be. He's probably the most laid back beer geek I've ever met and I'm sure he'll take care of ya.

Safe travels, and make sure you don't leave all those Texas gems behind

What about the snobby Tekus Only Tuesday with Pinkies Out Club we were hoping to start? I still want to do that for no other reason than the leather cuts for club members only will be epic!

While it won't help Chris if you're not moving until June, there is a bottle share planned by the Charlotte Craft Beer Brigade for noon this Saturday, April 12 at Good Bottle. It's open to all and no need to bring whalez, just anything you've been looking for an excuse to drink or share with others. We'll also try and match people up who are interested in splitting a couple of the bigger or pricier bottles that they carry.

I'll echo Jamie, Garrett and others with recommending Salud, Brawley's, Tom @ CM and Good Bottle as great shops and wonderful people. Hope to share a beer with all of you soon.
