So I'm counting 16+- new breweries in development in DFW alone right now (depending on what you consider a brewery in planning). That's in addition to the 18 or so already in business. Some of them may or may not even get started.

Think we can support that many in this market? I've heard of three in development just in Frisco. Anyone have any insight or thoughts on what we should get excited for or is it just a mad rush of amateurs wanting to capitalize on the hot new thing in DFW?

I'm looking forward to BrainDead for obvious reasons, and there are a couple of others that are building their facility right now that look interesting.

I would say a combination of the mad rush and the change in laws allowing for on-site consumption and distribution. DFW is spread out enough to actually support a lot more breweries (especially if their taprooms are in the burbs and are family friendly), but even most of the existing ones don't excite me.

18 already in business? I can only think of 14, who am I missing?

DEBC, Franconia, Rahr, Firewheel, Revolver, Martin House, Rabbit Hold, Cobra, Grapevine, Lakewood, Peticolas, Community, Armadillo, Four Corners

DFW is a big area. As long as they are quality, I'm sure there is room.

Got brewpubs you didn't mention Gordon Biersch and Humperdinks

I would guess if OP considers BrainDead (which I'm also excited about), then a place like Zio Carlo goes on the list too. Maybe even Gordon Biersch, Humperdink's, Uncle Buck's, Twin Peaks, etc.

The northern DFW cities need to stop restricting Bottle Shops/Pubs from co-existing along with the ability to fill growlers.

Yes. They will support them if they are good.

Also, looks like Nine Brand Brewing is licensed. Found one article about them opening in Allen in May supposedly. I am not sure if Reunion Brewing is dead in the water or not, and I think Small Brewpub should be opening in Oak Cliff reasonably soon as well.

I lumped Cedar Creek and 903 in there, along with Independent Ales and Zio Carlo. Just took the list off of the Dallas Brew Scene website.

We've got a lot of good beer up here, some mediocre, but nothing great as of yet. Just hoping something great is in the works.

I take the "no great beer" comment back, there is a couple of beers which I consider great, but maybe not what the masses consider great. Just want more of them.

I have been thinking about what the DFW area needs for awhile. I know what would make me extremely happy, but not holding my breath, and that would be a farmhouse brewery around here. A Jester King, Prairie fusion, with maybe some Off Color, and Side Project. Something that makes a lot of barrel aged stouts, sours, and funky farmhouse beers. Fort Worth is known as Funky Town, lets add some of that funk to brewing beer in this area.

I think every city in TX would happily take one of these.

This is true. While I am dreaming, why not shoot for the moon :grinning:. But in all seriousness, a true farmhouse brewery is something that is sorely lacking in the DFW area.

I think Denton would be a more likely spot if this were to ever happen.

Make friends with homebrewers is what you need to do to help that cause - go to Bluebonnet/Brew Riot and support the guys trying to make this happen. Even Chase had to start somewhere. Just keep in mind not everyone can pull off Jester King's business model.

On Denton: pretty sure I've heard of a guy with some badass saisons and farmhousey stuff at a festival one point up there... @Sethzilla or anyone know who I'm talking about?

ps: I still really need to try your homebrew @Indytruks138

I'll check those out. Especially since I am looking to get more into homebrewing. You are right about the JK business model. It takes a lot of guts to go out and start a brewery. However, to start a brewery that forgoes brewing the typical "bill paying beers" and brews what it wants and finds interesting is ballsy.

Also, I had no idea that the Denton scene was so diverse. Anything in particular that I should look out for?

@air Next time I host a share you'll def be invited and you can try whatever you like!

My buddy Barrett homebrews mainly sours/saisons and just won gold at Bluebonnet for Sour. He has his own house souring strain that is a beast and makes some super tasty brews. He wants to open an all sour brewery in DFW sometime in the future, I hope he is able to do it!

That would be fantastic times if he ever does open that brewery.

WTF do you think a hoppy saison (noble king) an IPA (wytchmaker), a light blonde ale (le petit prince) and an imperial stout (black metal) are?
