Well I am back from a brief Florida weekend excursion.. definitely too busy to be participating in WBAYDN, but certainly had some great stuff down there.

Starting off easy right now. Good start too.

It's spring fi-na-lly! I have my windows open and the first beer I had today was Rochefort 8. I am getting rid of all the heavier beers that I have left over from the winter and moving on to lighter fare. Cheers everyone and have a great day =) Oh . . . basil. Because it's so pretty.

From last night watching opening day of America's pastime with a half-American beer with a very American-themed label:

Hellllooooo BA!!! It's been a while for me, and it's time for something special. Here's a tasty little number that's been sitting in the cellar for about 4 years-

Some may complain that a beer like this is lacking in the flavor department, but they don't know how to get the best out of it. Age it this long and it begins to take on an aroma not unlike Bird's Nest Soup- a real delicacy!

let's accompany it with one of the classics:

    Cheers!

Just finished reviewing Avery Maharaja. Drop the alcohol a percent or two, and this goes from 4.15 to 4.3.

The way they're expanding, it might not be too long before they hit your state. Then you too can enjoy the KBS shit show like the rest of us.

First time trying the Bomb! Opaque and oily out of the bottle. The intense coffee aroma made me swoon! The coffee and chocolate totally come through in the flavor as well--I particularly loved the gritty coffee quality this has. The chili does not bring the heat you might expect, but it meshes very nicely with the carbonation to give it a zingy quality that I think really elevates the coffee/chocolate flavors. I think this totally lives up to the hype. Thank you Juniper Jesus for sharing!

Absolutely fantastic afternoon to sit outside with a smoke and a beer: BCBS straight from the cellar, and Drew Estates Java (Maduro) from the humidor.

BCBS is, of course, fantastic, smooth, amazing, awesome. The Drew Estate Java is a little oversweet on the lips, but that got better as it went. Really an awesomely smooth and tasty cigar, worth the price (for a treat; not worth the price for an every day smoke). First cigar I've had in almost a year, and damn, it was good.

Time and carbonation were doing some funky things to my brew. At one point, there were four distinct little eddies, all forming outward from the center. The picture probably doesn't do it justice.

Well-timed combination of stick and brew.

    The aftermath.

Another benefit of a 90 minute smoke-and-drink break in the lovely SE CT Spring sun is I got the chance to enjoy some fantastic music, and catch up on some reading.

Listened to the entire album, with plenty of time to spare. This song partially inspired my most recent tattoo.

But...still time to spare? Time to move on to some Alfred Brendel. Though mostly famous for his takes on Chopin, I really appreciate the subtle musicality he brings to 1st and 2nd period Beethoven pieces.

    Fantastic stuff.

Cheers, BAs! (Sorry for the long post.)
