I know we had some compliants about this beer last year from a few people (myself included.) So its out now and my personal opinion is its better than last year but I dunno it does seem too bitter which last year it seemed too bland. It just seems this beer isnt consistant and is different every year. Again just my opinion or maybe my pallete is out of wack who knows.
I don't think it could be any worse than last years version, which was drinkable but just seemed as though it sat around in the warehouse for six months and then was put on cooler shelves. Wish it would return to 2011 form. Gunna have to try for myself this years batch.
I think this years batch is better than last years. The hops are brighter than any can I had last run. It's not quite back up to where it was when it started (to my memory) but it's very enjoyable. I'm not getting a sense that it is too bitter to be honest. I'll be drinking a bunch of this per usual.
Nice early release - so when I could really go for this on a 100 degree day in late July it will either be completely gone or stale. Oh well, I guess I could refresh myself with a nice imperial pumpkin stout or malt-heavy harvest ale for the dog days of summer.
2011 to me had a nice hop bite, last year was just bland and now this year no nice hop bite just some bitterness.
Just finished up a tall boy and its definitely better than last year, definitely more noticeable zesty hop presence.
Hey ho, my usual summer fave is already out - Sierra Nevada Summerfest. At least they produce it through June-ish...heard Gansett stops making (packaging) the summer in early May. In other summer beer related news - the new Harpoon Shandy is all over <groan, for its early release too...yet to try>..
very citrus-fruit juice forward. I wonder if there is more juice there than beer. But I am not a fan of shandy, so maybe I'm misjudging. I think shandy people will like it. Btw, Narragansett shandy is about to be released, too.
Long Trail's new "Summer Ale" is better than Gansett Summer but then again its hard to beat those 16oz cans.
No, it's not just you. I haven't liked the Summer much at all for the past three years and I don't really have any inclination to buy it this year. It's too bad this one is a miss for me because I like Bock and Fest just fine.
Got my first taste of the 2014 version tonight. I like it. I remember it being on the sweet side in the past (then again, most 'Gansett brews taste a bit sweet to me). In any event, a tasty brew and with a sub 5% abv. and 16oz. cans I could see myself buying this again.
I'll buy it again but like a lot of people are saying, its better than last year but not better than 2 years ago.
