First, it seems like KBS for "2013" had 2,500 barrels. I assume it was brewed in 2013, filled in the barrels, and that's what we have now for 2014.
    http://beerpulse.com/2012/12/founde...500-whiskey-barrels-and-a-little-kbs-history/

Second, 2013 BCBS apparently only had 1,400 barrels.

Does this seem like what's actually happening? Everyone is experiencing issues getting KBS (1 bottle limits), whereas it seemed like getting 4 packs of BCBS (forget even the variants) wasn't too bad. (Sits on the shelf here in NY.)

How is that possible? KBS apparently filled almost twice(!) as many barrels as BCBS.

Probably a regional thing but I feel the same way. Had no problem finding a case of BCBS but am having trouble with KBS. Maybe a regional thing or just dumb luck. I don't go as crazy as some calling every store or chasing trucks. I have two or three shops I go to and if they don't have it I let it go.

For the Founders article, are they talking 2,500 barrels for all of their barrel aged beers or is it strictly KBS? I have a lot of trouble believing there's more KBS

I can't believe those number as accurate. With a smaller distribution footprint KBS would be flowing freely if they were doubling the output of BCBS.

I have a hard time believing there was more KBS made than standard BCBS. BCBCS was harder to get than both.

I too have trouble believing this. We get a LOT of Founders here in Chicago, and Binny's (our biggest retailer) barely got in any KBS at all. KBS seems much rarer than BCBS (which makes sense).

BCBS in Texas was extremely hard to find. I managed to snag 15 of the KBS out of retailers here in Dallas. I think it's harder to get both of them here. . .

I still see some bottles of BCBS here in Southern Mass. I don't think that will be happening with KBS. I don't see how they could have made more KBS.

BCBS is a shelf turd here in NYC. KBS is a friggin ghost. 1 bottle pp if you're lucky to know someone at most stores. Founder's is quickly becoming a brewery I can't tolerate anymore.

BCBS was far easier to get in FL even.
KBS seemed hard at first, it's trickling everywhere now though. I expect it to continue into next week, increases the hype if they limit bottles to 1.
FWIW most people are saying BCBS is better too.
I got sucked into the hype, chased down two bottles, but I just found some BCBW and BA Raspy so I couldn't care less about hunting KBS any longer.

Now I'm not saying this is the case, but is it possible KBS is far more kegged than BCBS? On top of that, a keg of KBS is 336 more ounces than a keg of BCBS (assuming it's a 1/6)

    Just spit ballin.

That's 2500 total barrels meaning not only KBS but also Backwoods Bastard, Backstage series & tap room only beers in those barrles.
BTW, BCBS in MI was a joke. I got 1 bottle of regular BCBS visiting 5 stores and no variants

Breweries often speak in Barrels meaning BBLs. 1 BBL is 31 gallons. It's the unit they'll use to refer to the liquid quantity. Whereas an actual bourbon barrel filled with beer is 53 gallons, a bbl of beer is 31 gallons. That may be what's going on here... just a thought.

I know of a store where I can get BCBS 2012 and 2013 freely still. That same store sold out of KBS in two hours.

Yeah there's absolutely no way those are accurate numbers.

BCBS = 5 months on the shelf
KBS = 5 hours on the shelf (sometimes less)

    No exaggeration.

BCBS was very hard to find around here, sold out in one day. I think it should be more evenly distributed amongst GI markets if NY has so much. Luckily snagged some KBS for the first time this year and it's pretty awesome.

I'm on the mailing list for a store around me, I responded to the mail opening up KBS reservations a few hours after it was sent out, and I didn't get any.

I walked into a store a month after the BCBS release and saw three four packs on the shelf.

I think BCBS must put out phony numbers to make it seem rare. I can still find as much of it as I want. I can think of three stores that have it on the shelves. If anyone needs any and it is actually rare where you live, hit me up. I'd glad to send some along.

I haven't seen KBS anywhere in MA
