    Dark Horse Plead the Fifth aged for 20 months in 2 barrels of Elijah Craig 12 Year and 1 barrel of Eagle Rare Single Barrel hand selected by Jeff Opperman and then blended. 55 cases produced.

    I'll be popping one of these shortly. Has anyone had the chance to try it yet?

    well looks like its public now. here is a shot of the barrels used. pic credit to kick ass family members that grabbed me some bottles.

    only at Oppermanns. i believe its sold out or very close to it.

    Went and picked up my bottles last night.

    It taste pretty damn good, real hot on the back end

    Wow that seems like a crazy good beer.

    That's what I thought. Interesting that they'd only have distro at their store and not the Gen Store @ DH.

    maybe they do and just havent announced it. i know that Oppermanns hand selected these barrels for the Bourbon to be made in and sold at their store and then reused them for the BBPT5 to be sold at their stores, or at least this is how it was explained to me and i saw the Elijah Craig bottles with the Oppermanns name on it.

    It isn't uncommon for an establishment to purchase barrels for a beer that is only for them to sell, although it is not that common around these parts. Usually they are anniversary beers. Generally these types of beers are only for the place in question. I would think it would be odd if they sold it at the brewery.

    just curious, why is one barrel in the picture Heaven Hill and one Buffalo Trace and then they have Eagle rare and Elijah Craig on the side? Did Oppermann's just add bottles of bourbon to the already filled barrels of beer?

    Elijah Craig is made at Heaven Hill Distillery. Eagle Rare is made at Buffalo Trace Distillery.

    Elijah Craig is produced by the Heaven Hill Distillery, Eagle Rare at Buffalo Trace. The prior are simply brands, the latter distilleries.
