So how much better is it than regular BBPt5?

I thought that the barrels were used to age Jeff Opperman's OWN whiskey/bouron (can't recall). And he commissioned DH to age, bottle them. Could be wrong tho

stuff is really effin good. a little more heat than regular BBPT5. id like to do a side by side soon to really get a good comparison. stronger bourbon presence but still very smooth. damn good.

@mike409, wax it yourself...That's as easy as melting hobby wax and dipping the bottle neck in it.

It's $4.99 a bottle with a four bottle limit. Got mine about thirty minutes ago.

Seriously. They are probably already oxidized without the wax.

Is there a shred of doubt that you would be unhappy with a case? Make sure you post a pic in the latest haul thread so the circle of envy is complete,

WOW! This stuff is unreal! Big bourbon character, very woody, more booze on the backend but still very smooth.

This and the fact that you got some of the beer in question is abundantly clear.

Anyone know if Oppermann's sold all 55 cases?

Here is what I know, being a local and all.

Jeff Oppermann goes to KY to taste and purchase full barrels of bourbon straight from the distillery. He sells the unbleanded barrel by the fifth at a discounted price to his customers. Up 25+ different barrels.

His first batch of Barrels were given to Midland Brewing Company(he is an investor) and they filled the barrels with their Dry Irish Stout, it was a disaster, IMHO(and my tasting group). http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24006/105932/

He then looked to Darkhorse to do Plead the Fifth in his barrels individually(It was rumored that he tried to get a barrel of BB Scotty Karate too) . Darkhorse for whatever reason, probably convenience, blended the barrels together to make this beer... Oppermanns BBPt5.

I am looking forward to trying it myself.

    Cheers!

Founders should do a Pappy 23 KBS and sell it from a roadside stand in Eagle River in the middle of February.

Hmm would love to try this as well. Doubt they would have any left but one phone call won't hurt. Though Saginaw isn't exactly down the road. Just had a bbpt5 first time the other day and easily one of the best ones I've had to date.

Btw how much does it cost to do something like this? This is the 2nd one I've seen in Michigan do this.

Must not be that much to have DH label, bottle and sign off on. The barrels are what $100 per? Maybe not even that?

This is definitely a fantastic way to advertise a business. I have never heard of this place before.
