I see Avery installed their new flux capacitor on those last two.

Yea. WTF is a quintupel? Does that make 120 minute a quintupel IPA?

Yea, 120-minute IPA would be a Quintuple IPA, except we haven't gotten to Quadruple IPAs yet.... Triple IPAs are typically much stronger than Tripels. So maybe 120-minute would just be a quadruple IPA.

It really is just an indicator of strength of beer, and considering 5 monks comes in at 18.94%, I think Quintupel is appropriate for this strong of a belgian. Not sure I've had anything like it (that strong of a Belgian) accept maybe Oerbier Reserva which I think is 13%.... which makes me think 5 Monks needs to be aged in Bordeaux barrels next instead of Bourbon.

Odell brewed a Quad IPA on their pilot system last year.

Just for clarification on all four of these labels... these are pre-production versions that we submit for federal approval. So the case numbers, abv's, and bottling dates are all vague estimates. That's life when it takes four to five months of paperwork to get a new beer and label approved.

Rufus Corvus is in a tank now and is ready to bottle, so we've had that tested and it's around 6.8%. There will be around 850 cases of that one. Black Eye and 5 Monks will both be in the 15-18% abv range, but I'd need to go run some numbers to do an estimate... we won't have those beers tested by a lab until all the barrels have been blended together in a tank.

The numbers on Obscuro are probably pretty close, but we're not taking that out of barrels for a couple of weeks.

Hey Andy, was just wondering if there's going to be any way that Black Eye is a lot different from Uncle Jacob's? Noticed the wheat in there and that had me excited. Is it more or less a redo of Black Tot?
Thanks for all the info you provide and the amazing beer you turn out!

ISO 17, 18 and next months 19 to add to my vertical. Obvious any future releases of above would be amazing as well

Black Eye = Rum barrels, Uncle Jacob's = Whiskey Barrels

Oh nice, didn't notice that, thanks for pointing it out. Is the base beer going to be radically different from UJ, relative for double stouts, or is wheat and rum barrels the only significant difference?

There are a few different malt additions to the Black Eye grist... percentage-wise there are more caramel and chocolate malts to pair up with the rum barrels, which means less roasted malt and midnight wheat. I wouldn't call it radically different, as you're going to have some similar flavors in these giant >15% abv stouts. But the inspiration on this was our original Black Tot recipe, which was also big on the caramel and chocolate flavors. It's clloser to UJ than Mephistopheles for sure...

The Tot was awesome... so I can't wait to get my hands on this.
Ruminator would be nice to see again, too.
And, let me add, it's REALLY nice to see more non-sour options in the series.

@rekrappy Any update on the release dates? Have you tasted any of them yet and if so any initial thoughts?

That's correct. I was also told that Black Eye is their highest ABV release ever, topping 18.50%, and there are around 350 cases, give or take.

Do they stop selling the bottles in the brew house at a certain time on the 13th?

Not until the beer runs out or the tap room closes that day. I went there for the last release at 7 or 8PM and there were still plenty of bottles for sale (and about half of the special taps still flowing).
