We want to know what this is before we open it. Any ideas?
    This is the only label
    It is corked and capped.

It was store bought in the 80s - sat in a cellar for a long time.

Are you sure it's a lambic? I bought a case of a saison by Brasserie à Vapeur about 5 yrs ago with an extremely similar typewritten label. It was from '92 if memory serves correct. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/841/

That doesn't sound like Lambic. Especially not if it was bottled within a year of brewing.

I agree with this. Doubt it's a lambic based on that. Possibly an old ale or strong ale, something of that nature. I wish I could help you. Open it!

Did you search the forums? For some reason I feel like I've seen something like this posted a while ago.

So a buddy of mine brought this to our tasting last night but we ended up not opening it because we honestly have no idea the brewer, style, etc. We think it may be some sort of vintage Belgian beer but with only the words on the label to go by, we really don't know. Anyone seen this mystery beer before? This is the only label on this 750 mL bottle with a cork and cap. We cannot see if there are words on the cork. Cap is plain. This is the only label on the beer. No idea what the signature says. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I may be wrong but I thought that the word 'porto' could only be used when referring to a port from Portugal so I'm assuming it's from that region rather than Belgium but agree that it looks more like a homebrew.

I can't make out what the cursive says, that will probably give you a lead.

All it says is "You should find a wine porto taste." So they're not saying it is a port wine, just using a comparison. (Similar rules apply to Dijon mustard, Champagne, and Bourbon.) The writing/phrasing seems to be from a non-English speaker, but other than that it's hard to decipher where it might be from.

What does the signature say? It's kind of hard to read in the photo, but that might be a good clue.

The language on the label "put it back in a cellar for some days" is not a construction that a native English speaker would use. But a European bottle would not be labelled 1 pint 10 fl. oz., it would be in centilitres. So I would suspect this to be a bottle which originally had no label at all and was sent to the US, possibly grey market, possibly as a sample. Or perhaps it is just homebrew.

If you're not going to drink it, I'll trade you a 4-pack of KBS for it....

Not saying it means anything but the word 'porto' wouldn't widely be used unless it's part of the normal dialogue so justing saying it COULD be a clue in discerning what country it may be from. Or it could be a home brewer just trying to use fancy words.

This is not home brew. It is from Brasserie a Vapeur in Belgium. It's just missing the front label on the bottle.

Just curious. Why do you both have the exact same photo of the label? (two separate threads were started and then merged)

Could be. In my extremely limited experience with port wine, this is the most widely known brand/bottle:

So I'm just saying it's not an unusual word by any means.
