I don't know if this is some sort of weird side-effect of how 'craft beer' is presenting itself these days, but I've seen that line of reasoning far too often. It's either huge/hoppy/barrel aged/crazy-ass/etc. sippers or light industrial lagers to these folks- somehow they are not seeing everything else available to them, especially the stuff that does the double-duty of being refreshing and satisfying at the same time.

Somebody do that guy a favor and put an Anchor California Lager in his hand.

Craft drinkers are terrified to be labeled snobs, so if they see someone hate on BMC they pounce. It's a way for them to show that their not an elitist, which is social suicide in contemporary America. "Every beer has it's place, blah, blah, blah" Yeah, we get it. Every beer does have it's place, but just because a craft enthusiasts does a little ball busting of the guy drinking Coors it doesn't mean s/he hates Coors Light all the time and thinks anyone who drinks it is a useless piece of dog shit. I'll hate on Coors Light all day. It's crap (you know it is), but that doesn't mean I pass judgement on those that drink it, just like I don't pass judgement on people that eat frozen pizza. But it won't stop me from making a joke about it. It's cool though, because they'll bust my balls too and say that my fancy beer/pizza must have cost my whole pay check or that I'm snob. Whatever, it's all just a couple of laughs. If you're being serious, then I really don't care, because you're ignorant. No different than someone that legit passes judgement on a person because of the beer they drink.

TL;DR: Frozen pizza sucks, but I still love you.

Some of you are so funny. I am not a political guy, but I am sure there is a term for people who feel other people SHOULD be doing something different. I for one do NOT support the bigtime domestic breweries such as busch, budweiser, and the like. I support craft brew 100%. And I will NOT drink a bud, coors, or shock top for any reason at any time. That being said, I don't think any less of someone who does.

I dig heavy, flavor filled beers... If I have a choice between Coor's or Founders, I am going to choose Founders 100% of the time, because, even if I go for quantity, I'd rather pay a little more and satisfy my own preferences...

I have also participated in a "Gross of 'Stones" event and pulled my weight with about 17... Sometimes quantity can be fun... But never in situations where I am going to have to choose between good beer and light beer...

It all balances out, in the end, but I will never understand someone who rates a Coor's Light as a five star beer. They are entitled to do so, but I am entitled to not agree.

Finally, someone who rates PtE as one star and in the review mentions, "I hate IPAs! This beer too hoppy!" outs themselves. Kudos for your bravery!

My can of cold Coors Banquet is pairing perfectly with this thread. Cheers.

I despise the term "craft" in beer. Good beer is good beer. And Ipa's are my favorite summer beer, especially when they are more sessionable in abv. Perhaps the people complaining about the cost of non BMC beer should drink less !

I think you have a good point there. There is so much out there on the extreme end it is hard for people to find their way without a guide. I have a very good friend that is in that boat. Turned herself off to any of the IPA family because she tried quite a few of the massive piney resinous hop bombs in a row.

I get some abuse about fancy beers but it is in good fun. I can give as well as get and it's no big deal, all bring in good fun. When it sucks is when people take this stuff seriously. There really isn't any need for it either way.

Haha... Not sure where you're getting that... I have never tasted the Elder, and I definitely donor hate IPA's!

I drink natty light and highlife sometimes for several reasons. Memories, drinkability, etc.

I do not discriminate against any beer the only time I'm picky or "snobbish" is when I'm buying beer with my money.

    Live and let imbibe, people.

Bottom line - be a nice person and don't hate on people for drinking crap beer, but a friendly ribbing in good fun (particularly to friends or family) is fine and fair game. I also suggest trying to introduce them to good but approachable craft. Start local if you can. They'd be more willing to try it and like it.

Personally, I try to avoid BMC as much as possible because I don't support how they do business, the ingredients they use, their marketing, and I think their beer is mostly terrible except for a few imports. I won't be over the top with saying these things, but I do try to nudge people (not judge) toward craft. I like when people are open-minded about trying new things, not just beer. And if I'm hated on for ordering craft or bringing craft to a party or wanting to go to a local brewery, then that person needs to figure a some things out.

People are too worried about other people and what they decide to put in their gullet. And that works in both directions here. Geeks and non geeks.

Call me a snob for preferring water over a Coors Lite on a hot day. And yes, I'll turn it down if offered. At my age (and weight) I'm not going to waste the calories on something that I think sucks.

And as someone above mentioned, Coors Lite does suck (unless I'm using it to kill garden slugs).

But I'm just concerned what's going in my mouth...not someone else's.

Good point. I never say to myself "I want to drink all day so I better drink Coors Light". If I want to drink all day I just drink what I want but at a good pace. If you're thinking about quantity over quality you're on the wrong site and you don't actually appreciate beer for beer, you appreciate what beer for what it does to you.

I can safely say that in my thirty-some years of beer drinking, I have never bought a Coors Light or Bud Light (I'll own up to PBR, Michelob and Rolling Rock) for myself, but I've bought plenty for others and at the end of a hot volleyball match or softball game I've never refused one either. After drinking them, my self-worth did not vanish and dogs did not lie with cats in harmony. I had a quenched thirst and fun with friends. Now if something else was available, I most likely went in that direction.

I love it when Max's has a tap takeover from different regions. Maybe because I like to step out the USA comfort zone once and a while. A lot of other Country's brew scenes are unique. I enjoy them for that. Just like the Indian Food Bar in the middle of Mediocre Pizza alley in front of where I work. I go there because I want a change of pace.
