Hello, I'm visiting Austin for the first time this week and I was hoping I could get a few suggestions about places to grab some bottles, local bars/brew pups to grab a pint, and any other info a beer nerd would need when visiting the city. I'm staying just south of Ladybird Lake and will not have a car, so please consider that when replying. Thanks in advance!
Hello, we are the people of the southwest forum community and we were hoping that you would enable the search feature that is prominently displayed in the upper right corner of the beer advocate website, to allocate any info that you would be seeking regarding bottles, local bars/brew pups (sic) to grab a pint, and any other info a beer nerd would need when visiting the city. Also, its Town Lake, never Lady Bird Lake, and most certainly never, ever Ladybird Lake, so please consider then when typing. Thanks in advance!
Hey Dansk. Thanks for such an informative reply. I will try to use the wealth of knowledge that you shared to better enjoy my time in Austin. GO HEELS and #trollon, sir!
Here you go... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...1WQ2RnZlpPSHRWLXM4Zm5Xenc&usp=drive_web#gid=0 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...huejhCSDZ5TllveFZsX0toTXc&usp=drive_web#gid=0 Of those listed, my recommendation is East 1st, Central Market North Lamar or Westgate, Sunrise for bottles to-go For bars Draughthouse, Pinthouse Pizza, Hopfields, Wright Bros. Brew and Brew, Hi Hat, Craft Pride, Bangers Breweries, Hops and Grain, Austin Beerworks, Jester King, but check the times and days they are open to the public. And remember to thank @aschwab for putting this list together
Thanks @Theortiz01! Hey @Krumb. Yes, I am friends with @flipdog0 . I'm just hoping to find some good info so I can make the most of my trip to Austin.
If you are here on Sunday (4/20), skip the rest and go to Wright Bros Brew and Brew. They will be tapping 10 kegs of quality stuff including a bunch of Prairie, and other more specialty stuff. Other than that, the post with links is genearlly where I point to for these questions.
you'll have a great time. i spoke with flip and reiterated that theortiz pointed you in the right direction (errr, aschwab did via the work he put into the spreadsheets - props). i'm sure flip has you hauling back some JK beers. enjoy your trip.
oops sorry everyone. thought i was just make a satirical joke. been a long week traveling for business in the pac NW. i will go away now and drink beer by myself.
I mean, its not like he hoarded a bunch of beer from the cellar of a dead guy he hardly knew and then mentioned it every time he drank one of those beers, but yeah, a little heavy handed on the sarcasm for sure.
Rogness and Real Ale will require a car, as will JK, but sometimes you can find an Austinite to carpool out there (JK) with you. But @Theortiz01 already nailed the in Austin places. Though I'd add some places, like WF Lamar for bottles and Pinthouse is also a very good brewpub. Cabs in Austin suck, so if you need bus lines check out Capmetro, or ask me (if it's north of the river). If you're south of the lake, whipIn might be close.
Purely hypothetical in terms of what would be worse than what Dansk did. No one would really do that...
