This is so disappointing. I was really looking forward to these beers. I'm in Arizona and I don't get out there that often to pick up beers. I'm not sure I'll even get any based on the June 30th deadline.

Yes, that means that there's a good chance they'll turn sour, especially if you store them anywhere other than the refrigerator.

Most strains of lactobacillus can't live in high concentrations of alcohol. If anybody wants to share a sample of one of these infected beers, I'd love to culture these resilient little guys. High abv Kombucha, here I come.

    Exactly. Per their email:

"For those unaware, lactobacillus is a bacteria that is capable of turning a beer sour (we use it intentionally in our sour beers, but did not intentionally use it in this beer). As for this beer, it is quite high in alcohol, contains healthy brewers' yeast and is fittingly carbonated, all factors that do not make a good environment for lactobacillus to survive. It is possible that its presence will never affect the flavor of the beer, but it is also possible that it will."

what a bummer. Was already leaning toward not renewing my membership next year, I think this just sealed it for me. I like how they make it out to be some bargain at $20 for a bottle that may or may not be infected.

Yes, and I had an infected White Chocolate (an interesting experience; not entirely bad but not quite good). That they've cultured strains of highly resilient Lactobacilli is quite a feat. Maybe it's an intentional movement in their war against The Rare Barrel.

White Chocolate '13 was 14.75%, so if it was lacto in that infection, they must be some super lacto. The chances of them not surviving seem slim unless this release a 16% + beer. I don't know if that much higher of an ABV will have a significant of effect on their survival (assuming it's a similar strain from the infected WC) Drink fresh seems to be the conclusion per their recommendation.

I must have read the email differently than you. Other than them saying "On the plus side...". I don't see them trying to say this is some kind of bargain. They explicitly said they lowered the price so people will have more confidence in trying it.

Yeah, he's just saying he wants their special strain of lacto that CAN survive in high ABV.

the fact that they are selling a beer that they are not 100% confident in is very off putting to say the least

Cacaonut was even higher at 15.6%, and it tasted worse than WC.

Ugggh about the lacto. At least they are warning us. Also probably means they won't credit/guranatee if it does go bad.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. I was really excited to hear details about this but not even a single name drop of what 3F will be bringing and the only selling points are some slowly infecting beers as well as stuff found at the anniversary party without a DD or even a buddy to walk in with for HS... Yeah, I'll hold off on this one as I don't want to roll the dice on what "extremely special" beers are.

    i agree.
more half-measures from the bruery- a quasi-apology, half-ass concessions/discount, placing the onus for quality on the consumer, and a limited window for recourse.

    Exactly.

What's my motivation for buying any Rue D'Floyd or Floyd D'Rue, @PMR & @mattolesh? I live in NY and my trustee picks up and then get the bottles to me. They can't be refrigerated the entire time. Rue D'Floyd was one I was looking forward to the most. Now I'm not even sure I'll bother buying a single bottle. Not after my Cacaonut was a sour mess. I WAS going to use that credit on the Rue D'Floyd, but not now. Highly disapponted, to say the least.

I guess I see it differently. I think bruery prices in general have just gotten completely out of control, combine that with the never ending QC issues over the past year, I'm rapidly losing interest in the Bruery and my society membership. $20 is a lot for a bottle of beer, with or without the chance it goes bad. And the fact that they do say "on the plus side..." to me does indeed imply that they're trying to pass it off as some bargain. I was really looking foward to this collab and this is a total letdown. I'll probably still take my chances and buy a bottle of each.

Fair enough. I don't disagree with prices getting out of control but I don't think that's specific to The Bruery.

I wonder if that means they will hold them in refrigeration for us as well?
