I know it might not seem like a good move, but at least it's not a dick move. There are some breweries that have infected beers and do nothing about it. They might not do a recall, and have definitely not done a refund. One brewery even said something along the lines "if you think it's infected, send it to us sealed and we'll look into it."

The Bruery is making a smart business move by selling a still drinkable beer (at a discount.) Might not be drinkable down the road, but for now it is. It's unfortunate though the conditions especially when there's a level of expectation for being members. They've spelled it pretty clear though, purchase at your own risk. They wouldn't be releasing it at all if it wasn't drinkable now, and if they did that--how many more of us would be super pissed? I know I would.

What you call off putting, I see as an candid response to no win situation. If they had announced they'd decided to discard all the bottles due to the possibility of future infection (likely as it may be), I'd have been the first to plead with them to let us buy bottles at a discount - especially since they taste awesome now (the Bourbon variant in particular). This solution leaves everyone with the info they need to decide if they're interested in making the purchase. I'll buy a few bottles, keep 'em refrigerated, drink 'em in the next couple of months, and be grateful I got 'em at a discount. If their candor that they're not 100% what will happen at the end of June makes you nervous, there are plenty of other choices out there...

Well good thing is...like most beers that are "suspected infected" they will most likely have both at the tasting room on tap shortly (just like white chocolate and cacaonut), and we will be able to try it on tap without spending $20 on a risk..

Ill buy one for the tick. What I was going to do either way though . I'd rather have more Mishmishmish....

How fast does Lacto grow? If a bottle went from fridge, to shipping, to glass winthin a week is it going to be a mess? Asking for people I trustee for wanting at least one for the tick.

Yup. With the anticipation of this collaboration, the uproar over not releasing something would be much larger, in my opinion. I think they are handling this well.

unfortunate. 2 beers i was going to max out on i might not even get a bottle of now. i doubt i can even get to so cal to pick up the beer by the end of june, and am ordering 1 of each max even if i can get a chance to pick them up. if anyone wants my remaining allocations and can get them on their own they are welcome to them, ill just put you as the trustee on your order and you can pick them up at your own convenience

Agreed. The situation sucks, but there certainly would have been folks clamoring for it if they'd decided to toss the batch altogether.

I also agree with the person who noted that as a non-CA-resident society member, this is basically a useless round of allocations since there's inevitably going to be a long stretch of non-refrigeration before the beer arrives. But again, it's a no-win situation, and there's little else to be done given the circumstances.

All that aside, what actually irritates me the most is my credit from the earlier soured batches expires at the end of April. While I've used up some of it, there's still a good chunk of unused credit remaining, which I'd planned on using for this release. I suppose now that's going to waste. Given the timing of when those credits were issued, I have to assume I'm not the only person in this boat. Incredibly frustrating, for all the obvious reasons.

I get the feeling the only way we will be refunded is if it is in fact sour, and we had NOT picked up our bottles. I guess those who have picked up their bottles and it is sour, are SOL

Dammit, I hadn't even thought of this. I live in Arizona, so I would be driving the bottles 400 miles through the desert in June if I bought any.

yep, same boat. Was fully intending to use my credit toward these, now will be forced to use it on 'regular' bottles that I otherwise wouldn't have purchased.

I am more disappointed that both of the FFF beers are loaded with a bunch of fucking herbs, spices, and superfluous fruit than I am about the lacto.

I guess it is futile to hope for a simple non-syrupy BA Imperial Porter

The beer had already been brewed, they could have dumped it at a loss, but it would have been the right thing to do.

Since they chose to bottle it, they could have sold it at whatever the bottling cost were, and said, hey, we screwed up, the batch is not up to our standards, but since were out the additional cost of bottling, you can take the risk at $5.00 a bottle.

I work at a small family biz, most of the time I shamelessly make a profit, its what we have to do to stay open. but when I screw up, there are times where I lose money to make things right. Is it what I like to do, hell no. But there are times when its what is right to do.

I will preface my comments with I lean towards sours, so a Porter being ruin isn't going to get my panties in a bunch.

    1. I feel they were forward and honest about the issue at hand. Other brewries may have released it knowingly and done nothing to resolve the issue after the fact.

    2. The could have said no go and dumped the whole batch. I am glad they didn't. At least there is a chance to try a possibly great beer, but with little chance of aging it or using it as trade bait.

    3. They are taking steps as a company to help reduce future contaminations by opening a second brewing facility fo sour stuff.

    4. How do you know it wasn't FFF who botched the job. Just sayin......

Either way I understand how people could be frustrated with another sour beer mistake. I can also see how poeple would be disappointed that a beer they were hoping to hoard and use as trade bait is gone. If poeple want to get all butt hurt about it and never drink Bruery beers again, by all means. I just don't personally share the sentiment. Its beer, a living creature, sometimes it just doesn't behave as planned.
