Schlenkerla is imported by Hunterdon (Whitehouse Station, NJ). You may want to contact them and ask when/where Fastenbier is available in the US.

I had Fastenbier on draft at a smoked beer event in Philly. That beer is awesome! I went back for multiple pours of that beer!

    Cheers!

I had it on-draft in RI. It's only available from Lent to Easter. I missed it at Schlenkerla when I visited, but I was lucky to have it when I got home.

Talk about customer service! Messaged schlenkerla through their website, got a reply back in a few hours, which had the head of distribution also copied on the email, who ALSO replied with more distribution info within the following hour. Very friendly & obviously they value customer service as much as their beer, which is rare to see nowadays.

Had to open one tonight , just felt right!!

But... what did they tell you about the Fastenbier here in the U.S? And more specifically, seeing you're in Michigan, here in the Midwest?

I know that the Map Room in Chicago has had it in the past, but I don't know how consistently.

Also coming out at the same time is Mahrs Der Weisse Bock. Two weeks from Wednesday you'll find me at one or the other  It will be the first time in 10 years that I've been in Bamberg on Ash Wednesday...

They weren't able to tell me the exact location of where the few kegs will end up, but they pointed me in the direction of the "local" distributor, told me where they were located (turns out, <30 miles from my house), & gave me their contact info regarding exact places/times of distribution.... On top of all that, they provided me with a nice, little pamphlet further explaining the Fastenbier & what makes it so special. They just both seemed like genuinely nice fellows who cared enough to answer questions that they easily could have ignored... It's just not so common to see this type of service nowadays, especially from a head brewer.

I'm assuming this one is also Germany only? :slight_frown:

I was in Bamberg one year, at my usual time (Sept-Oct) and visited Klosterbrau.... For the hell of it, I asked if they had any Maibock. Sure 'nuff, they had 1 bottle left in their cellar. Damn it was good!!

    Prosit!!

Well it is bottled, but as Stahlsturm suggested, I'm pretty sure Klosterbräu's operation is smaller scale than Schlenkerla's.

Can't remember where you are, but keep an eye on the tap list at Slows, I think that is the place our friends said they had it. Slows often has the Maerzen on tap.

About ~25 minutes from Slows! Love that place.... Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out.

Schlenkerla is imported into the US by B. United - see Aecht Schlenkerla Fastenbier (keg only)

Hunterdon, part of the huge L. Knife & Son conglomerate, is a NJ licensed distributor, not an importer. L. Knife has it's own import division, St. Killian Importing, and Hunterdon does distribute beer from both St. Killian and B. United.

I've been in Schlenkerla half a dozen times and I've never yet stepped into one of the dining rooms. Always in the Schwemme or the courtyard behind it, maybe next time.

My buddy and I always sat at the little round table under the left window. From there we could watch who was coming and going, have a look outside to the Sandstrasse, and (perhaps most importantly) see when a new keg was being tapped.

What time were you and Herrburgess there to take these pix? 7AM? ;-) Never seen either room other than packed!!

Ahhh.... the keg just sitting there on the right, waiting to dispense the rauch royalty!! I usually end up just sitting in the Schwemme and chillin'.... Prosit!!

    @mjtierney2 Today was the day!

After trying to track it down in Ann Arbor without much luck (thanks to the operators of the place which presumably received a keg, not the distributors of the kegs themselves) I had pretty much given up hope.

On a completely unrelated note, a buddy & I bought tickets to a Dark Horse Brewing dinner & beer event at a bar that's relatively local to us; five courses paired with five beers. Wouldn't you know it - this bar just so happened to have the Fastenbier, fresh on tap! Couldn't have worked out any better than that; following the Fastenbier with venison kielbasa, quail soup, fried smelt, buffalo short rips, & an elephant ear dessert was perfect.

Heller Trum's Helles will (likely) always be my favorite from them, all things considered, but the Fastenbier easily competes with Urbock as my runner-up (I know @herrburgess will be upset I didn't say Marzen  ). Just a lovely beer, beautiful smoked, meaty aroma with subtle caramel & toasted malt sweetness & a nice, earthy hop bite that opens up with some warmth.

My only complaint is that this was served in a small tulip & not a gigantic dimpled mug !!!!
