I have always dug Hollingshead's, and I choose to overlook the fact that their food is too expensive and the service is sometimes intentionally bad; but I might be needing a break from them for a while. I was there two days ago for a Lagunitas tap takeover, and Kenny demanded on several occasions that everyone stop talking because he needed to deliver some speeches. He yammered on about how Hollingshead's does things differently and nobody else does a tap takeover like they do, blah blah blah; as if they are the only people to hold a tap takeover with six drafts in OC. The sales rep told Kenny to put one of my beers on his tab, and Kenny charged me for it anyways. The regulars kept cutting in line because apparently they have priority in a line that already moves glacially slow. I dunno…maybe I'm wrong, but with so many great places and local breweries to choose from now, the appeal is beginning to wear off. Plus, that whole debacle between them and The Bruery has always rubbed me the wrong way. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm sure I'll be back there again soon.

Last time I was there, I got charged for an extra pour ($9) but was too drunk to realize it at the time.

Six drafts is a "tap takeover?"

I'd be willing to pay double what they charge for the spicy prosciutto sandwich.

The only good thing about Hollingshead's is Kenny's dad. That guy is really nice.

Not even on the radar. Overpriced, arrogant, and not open on the weekends to boot.
    Plus Packer world is nauseating.

Never understood why so many people enjoyed this place. Never had a "good" time there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: put a chalkboard up (or whatever) that lists all the beers that are on tap. No, I'm not trying to creep on you, I just want to see what is on tap. Oh, and all those "custom" mugs seem a bit superfluous

They were once the sh*t. They got Russian River beers before anyone in Orange County was serving them on draft. I remember waltzing in on a Monday afternoon and enjoying a couple mugs (yes, mugs!) of Pliny the Younger before the craze set in years later. I have fond memories of Hollingshead's. They still get great stuff. Plus, they can be friendly if you catch them on the right day. Ever since the Mom and Dad have passed on, however, the vibe is just not very pleasant. I dunno; maybe it's me.

The Bruery opened up Provisions in the Orange Circle. Kenny Hollingshead felt betrayed because the Orange Circle is in the same city as HH. They stopped carrying all of The Bruery's beers on draft and in bottles. Still don't, even after Provisions closed it's doors.

I agree that their sandwiches are good; but don't charge me $10.99 for a "double", which is really just some more meat. I can't even get a whole pickle wedge?? C'mon...

I have been a BA for 6 years now and in those 6 years never stepped foot in the place. Never seemed like a good place to hang out. Always seems like a sandwich shop that was over priced and had some good beers on tap. Not my kind of place

Pretty funny as the only times I went there was when I going to Provisions - so tangentially the Bruery actually got me to patronize the place, haven't been back since the OG provisions closed.

There is an undeniable charm to the place. It is kinda unique: A deli with about eighteen quality -- even rare -- craft beers on draft and a huge bottle selection. However, if this novelty was matched with a pleasant attitude and reasonably-priced food, the place would be top on my list; but it's not. All I'd like is for them to lower the price of their sandwiches and not act like they're the best/only game in town.

Their shitty hours are reason enough I can't remember the last time I was in there. Prices were a bit more than I'm comfortable with just a stones throw away at other places and the food is pretty pricey.

And yeah, I do recall that the only times I ever stopped by there was to go to Provisions. So the bruery's foot print there brought them business. But hey, if they want to make enemies for silly convictions, far be it from met to stop them.

I will say, those pickled eggs are a good snack.

That too! Closed on the weekend and last call at 7pm on weeknights?? Yeesh. I know that they are essentially a deli, but if you're gonna sport that many tap handles...
